Not the Op but have friends who worked for 6-7 years to make M in B4 (that’s average apparently).

This guy has been stuck in big 4 , how would he know about the salaries in banks? Dont blame him.

His life is already as sad as it is now

5 is the average to reach M in B4. 6-7 years just mean the person has retained through some levels. 8-10 years is the average for BB BO. Does not make sense for you to compare the so-called average in B4 with so-called fastest in BB BO right? May I know which BB & BO is that with starting 11-12k - that is possible if the number of years spent in associate level is longer than average.

1 promotion every year, you wish! Just look at your audit managers in big 4 on linkedin, and on average they get promoted to M level at the 7 year mark

Not salty at all. Just have been through both routes and want to expose how misinformed you are.

Am currently doing MO @ one of the top-tier BBs (GS/JPM/MS). Not specifying to remain anonymous. Average performer makes VP in 8-9 years (if you are in the grad programme - 1/4 of the class makes VP in 6-7 years fyi) and typically fresh VPs across the firm have 6-10years of experience (varies depending on your background etc.). Starting for VP BO is >12k @ where I am at.

Anyway I do have friends in B4 saying that 6-7 years at manager is very common (not trying to start a fight or anything lol). Average joe makes SM with 9-10 YOE and gets stuck there unless they can move on to D & Partner.

you are right. there are various levels of manager in B4. on the normal track, people make the cut for manager in 5th year and stay within the manager band till the 7th year.

Iirc I have a few acquaintances who are still at AM at the 5th & 6th year mark. Heard many complaints over the past 1-2 years during covid that promotions in B4 were halted as well.

Friend in MC (top performer btw, he works really hard too) still stuck as associate even though he’s supposed to be senior 1/2 now. Hopefully things have changed for him post covid.

Well ok didn't know that as I have left B4 quite a long time back but to be honest I don't think these cases are common as retaining is a huge deal and as far as I know very few people are retained each year.

Theres no retaining, its just normal progression.

Don't comfort yourself. You're still in big 4. Vouch finish already?
