I think we realise that, which is why we have been having this conversation.
We are saying that if there's an easier option, is anyone regretting? And if anyone is regretting, how are you pivotting? New industry? New degree? Starting own business? Or just accepting things as they are?

Big 4 firms are the only firms in the world that prioritises employee career growth and trajectory. There is no other firm who will provide such a steady and big salary increment and promotion annually. Outside of Big 4, most people only get at most 3% increment and 10% increment when promoted which occurs 3-4 years annually.
Also, in Big 4, once you reach partner your compensation is also tied to profit sharing. This undoubtedly make you earn way more than your majority of the peers who left. This is why 90% of people remained poor because of the life choices they make according to Andrew Tate. Fresh grass who called out Big 4 paying low salaries lack basic foresight and long term thinking (and not so smart workers)
Stay woke salaryman, don’t be conned by naysayers here mentioning the doom and gloom about audit. These kind of pessimistic people will never go far in life and yet wishes to drag people down as well

I won’t go so far to say they are the “only” firms to do this, but you are right that this is one of their main selling points. They offer a career, not a job, with a laid out path that allows you to climb the corporate ladder. You see yourself growing in the firm year after year.
Regarding the comment on increment, the pay climbs with the change in role and responsibilities - you are constantly being pushed to fill in bigger role. It’s not meaningful to say 3% or 10% because you are comparing against a job which may be stagnant and doing the same duties.
Anyway, you still missed out the biggest dealbreaker, which is you need to climb from Associate to Senior Manager over a number of years where you have to put in the actual hard work and effort.
It doesn’t fit the instant gratification model younger ones seek, so there is talk your 先苦后甜 model is outdated.

The equivalent "Big 4" for lawyers starts new associates at SGD $7500-$7800 and gives them $1K per month annual increment thereafter. The scale is similar for management consulting. IB starts new analysts at even higher.
Your assertion that "Big 4 firms are the only firms in the world...that provide such a steady and big salary increment and promotion annually" is patently false.
The truth is, audit simply pays like s__t for such grinding hours.

there's no promotion annually. salary increment is standard amount, comparable to other companies. not all partners are profit sharing partners. don't mislead newbies. i know u want to reduce competition for ur non-audit jobs but don't con ppl lah

Honestly, just google how much your CA and CPA peers are paid in HK, Australia and the UK.
Assess their annual salaries and yours, and you’ll understand what we are saying.
It’s all same IFRS, accredited local unis, member of global alliance. Just salary different.

Again, not comparable to put Accountants next to Lawyers and Bankers.
They’re not even in the same tier in terms of entry requirements.
Your argument would make sense in Sgexams Reddit, for pre-university students to study hard and do better for A levels.
Once you’re a working adult in 30s, the gate to Law is almost certainly closed unless you’re up for a mid career switch. And the incremental effort then is even larger than just staying in audit to climb.

the problem is, why does audit work need to be so shag in the first place? not even value-adding, so client don't want to pay ****. if you get paid 100 for cleaning a toilet you aren't gonna make it spanking clean, just no biohazard can already, so why are we killing ourselves
