My mum has never worked but my dad earned 7K for a long time and she spent rather lavishly and they racked up debt which they just paid off after selling home. They still have a maid that they are keeping because they pity her and my mum is just lazy to do simple maintenance of the home. My dad just stopped working retired, he doesn't quite have savings and is planning to get another job. Wife and I combined take home about 4.6K only after CPF. No kids, but I resent the fact that they insist on spending 700-1k for maid a month while constantly complaining about money. I would definitely provide for them if there was a need but I think they can send the maid back and rent out a room first and then if they still need help I'd be more than willing. How much should I give?
