So to simplify my question, do SIM UOL grads get hired at stat boards like HPB?
Keep your options open instead of just govt sector. Sim uol grads are still not on par in terms of employment in govt sector.

There is always a gap between your dream and reality.

I understand that. I will take that into consideration, and recognize that there is a greater chance for progression in the private sector.

But for SIM UOL grads wanting to be hired at HPB in particular, is it difficult to get such a position?

Basically, what i'm asking is, Is HPB is competitive to get into?

I know for ministries like MOF and MFA, it is basically impossible.
I know for stat boards like EDB, it is basically impossible.

But just like uni degrees, stat boards also have tiers. Apparently, these stat board tiers are a real thing.

From my understanding, HPB is tier 2 or 3. How difficult is it to get into HPB with a SIM UOL degree?

You should try applying and see the difficulty level.

The govt sector is just not meant for private uni graduates.

You can write in to HPB to ask if they accept SIM UOL grads.

Only the hiring manager can tell you that. Also IR is probably the wrong degree, you should do something like Business.

$130k pa is too low. You should be earning at least $150k pa after 13 years in the work force. Loser.

wow. The thread is sure long. I see a lot of people trying to feel out how to navigate when the grad. Just to share my experience.

Grad recently from UOL-BNF.

Have good working experience. was in a Hedge fund, Trading desk and use to run a side company to supplement income. Total work experience is probably around 5 years. now doing commodities trading for mnc. my advice for newcomers is to get your internship sorted out asap. if you have no idea what you wanna do when you enter UNI, that's gonna be a dangerous and slippery road down. If you know what you want, then get the internship in the relevant sectors. TBH, my grades are **** and half the people here probably have better grades than me but that doesn't really matter cause I'm marked by my performance in trading.

if no work exp, Grades are your only saving grace. So bank on it and score it with flying colors. end of the day, work exp> grades. if you're aiming to go IB, then grades ARE your only way(unless of course, your dad owns the bank). anything less than a FCH is gonna be hard thou not impossible. I have seen a few of my friend going IB from private U but they are far and few in between. most of them are the most hardworking people I have known. Connections are key in the finance industry.

More importantly, how much do you earn after 5 years? From the way you sell yourself it should be at least $150 pa?

around 75k to 80k pa? i started out at around 3k and increase like 20 percent to 30 percent a year. the important thing is to know your worth i feel. dont sell yourself short and get lowball like 1.5k or 2k but also dont expect like 5k starting coz thats unreasonable.
