I know of local uni students earning roughly around $2k plus too, so I guess we are not alone. I think it depends on the opportunities presented to us.

contracts at bank paying between 2.6 -3

Greetings to all,

Since i did not managed to score well for my polys, the option for studies would be either SIM - UOL or UniSim.
Wondering if any people have any advice with regards to whether which SIM - UOL course or a UniSim (full Time 4 yr) course would be better. With consideration to pay and career prospect.
I cant really decide which is better because currently, i am serving NS in a reservice camp and interact with alot of reservicemen. Some advices i heard is to finish a degree in a shorter time period (eg. SIM-UOL 2yr) and start working and getting a head start in work experience compared to studying for 4 yrs.
Any advices?

Thank You

Started as a contract staff in foreign bank 2.5k just over 4 years ago. Converted to perm after a couple of months. Just changed to another foreign bank last year, now getting mid 5s.

A better option would be look for a full time job with your diploma first. Work for afew years before opting to contiune your education. This serves several advantages compared to the traditional route. Firstly, you would not be burden by study loams and tution fees, working a few years allows you to build a savings so as you would lighten the financial burden of higher education. Secondly, it allows you to find out which sectors you are motivated and interested to work in for the long term, this way you could gain an insight into the good and bad side of the industry/ job. Finally, together with number 2, you could have a proper understanding in your course of studies and how it relates back to your job experience.

These 3 reasons would allows you to benefit more in the long run than the traditional route. Not to mention gaining working experiences and relationships during your job.

Hope these helps you in your decision making.

Good day seniors,

I am going to graduate next year (2015), provided that I managed to pass everything for this year and the next. I am currently taking Bsc Business with SIM-UOL programme.

Even though I am about to graduate next year, I still do not have any idea which sector do I want to enter, and what job prospects do I want. For a business degree from UOL, which sector can I enter?

I really want to start thinking about my future now as I have left only 1.5 year to go. With advice from you seniors and doing more research, I am sure I will be able to find out more.

Thank you in advance!

just go to any job site and key in business degree and you'll get a pretty good idea. also, your grades would give you a pretty good idea of your strengths and weaknesses - which modules did you do well in and which did you not? you might also want to apply to an internship to get a better idea of what you'll like to do.

u can enter nearly any sector in a non-specialist role with a business degree. u need to get some career counselling and do some research on your own as no one can tell u what to pursue except yourself.

of course if you chose this path cos you are a rich indon kid who wants to study as long as possible, then enjoy!

FYI everyone from saa-uol who got FCH was offered a position in deloitte.

Graduated last yr May and gotten a compliance role with a european bank specializing in the area of aml risk n controls.

At entry levels, AML/kyc roles r paid lower than their middle/front office counterparts. You don't really have to work late / OT over the wkends becoz workloads r generally manageable. But of coz there r days u have to come back during wkends for UAT testing, etc. And , u will have plenty of "life" outside. It all comes down to how u manage your work. Every tasks that you're given with r tagged with a deadline. U screw it up, u stay back n finish it. Some banks separate AML/KYC with compliance coz at low lvls things r generally quite mundane. But as u progresses up, to somebody that provides advisory, yr pay increases exponentially. At AVP level, you can expect around 5-7k basic depending on which part of the bank u serve. From what i know, private banking pays much more to their AML executives... As you clock the hours, you might wanna explore different other compliance functions. There r specific areas within compliance that pays very well :) Unfortunately, they dont just accept any fresh grad with no prior exp in regulatory roles, you gotta work your way up there. There r also professional certs (subsidized by MAS) which banks favor it a lot.

P.S: graduated with FCH and drawing just abit below mid 3s.

Wow, am really keen to know which bank do you work for. Mine requires OT everyday, workload is crazy):
