Well, MX11 range also quite wide. Your peers though in MX11, could be in the S$4,100 – S$6,160 region, in terms of salary, could be comparable to yours. just that different grade. I assume you get your degree in mid-2002? With honours?

yeah, got it in 2003, honors.
Are there different annual increment rates associated with different grades?

Like a DD on MX9, would he also get a $150 annual increment like me, or would his be different? Is it percentage-based, or based on a fixed sum? I really don't see any pattern with my increments over the years other than it seems to hover around $150.

When I started at MX13 8 years ago my starting pay was higher than the $2800 above, but the progression is not quite as good as I thought it would be.

I'm 34, so I think I'm a bit slow. Am I? My peers reached MX11 2 years ago elsewhere.
I am at the tail end of MX10 equivalent in the poly and I am just 40. I think you are doing fine.....I am not a manager

Usually it is % based. quite close to the range set by NWC.

I think you are OK. I know of people who are promoted to MX11 only after 10 years. The rate of progression also differs across organisations, so you should compare yourself against your colleagues, and not your peers in other ministries/stat boards, to assess if you are slow or fast, or average. In any case, so long as you do not stagnate at your ceiling, you shouldn't be too far behind those who get promoted a couple of years earlier.

i think if we ignore the grade and look at his cureent drawn pay, anything below 5k is considered slow at his current age of 34.

So what would be the average wage of someone at the age of 34? According to MOM's latest annual report on wages in Singapore, the median wage of "Managers" for age group 30-34 is 4,700. Though not a perfect match, what with title inflation nowadays, "Managers" would still be the best proxy for graduates' pay.

A little off-topic, but does HR factor in age at all when making a pay offer? Because you say I'm getting low for a 34-year old, and when I got my first job offer in 5 years, they offered around $1000 less; ie around $3800.

@Miwashi

My 2 cts worth is why stay on in the Govt and be held hostage?
It is definitely not right to say an Hons degree holder us better than a Pass or Pass with Merit but it does prove you have worked for your results or have some grey stuff up there.
34 is still not too late to move out and explore the commercial world. You maybe pleasantly.

I have in the private sector all my working life and if you ask me & prefer to take P&L pressures. But if you value stability, the civil service is for you. Of course, you you are an above average performer, has the EQ and drive to suceed, you should do well anywhere.
