Unfortunately, the reality in SG is that the chance of you finding an industry you like with the opportunity to earn money is close to 0. Unlike in the US where you can make a living by playing basketball, sing song, dancing or whatever you're passionate in. The most stable industries in SG are ones that people hate to work in. i.e. Banking/Finance/Tech/Manufacturing/Legal etc. with absolutely garbage work life balance.
So you yourself have to decide if you want money on the table or a simple life.

today i tendered my resignation after i heard another guy got promoted instead of me. he joined the company about 3 months after me but he promoted to engineer 2 instead of me even though I have a degree but he is only a dip holder. I confronted the manager and he told me he got some upgrade course while I didn't and he joined some project that helped the company to win a contract with some big names. But still he is dip only. If every dip can promote faster, when what for I take a degree? I really cannot understand why mncs promote people with such strange criteria. I just need some advise on my career, is there any mnc out there that promote people base on paper qualification? I am very lost now, which industry should I join?

He can promote quicker but there is a cap. After some rank, as much as the manager wants to promote him ,he cant because need degree. Just job hop lor. Quiet quitting style. Just do bare minimum and get promoted slowly or till find new job with higher pay.

I am the poster of post 16.
According to what my manager says, there is no cap. 'Whatever works' was exactly what he says.
When i heard that my heart sank. If dip can promote faster just because he performs better, then what is the point of my degree?
