what is the salary range for engineering management job?

I am a fresh BSC (HONS) ENIGNEERING MANAGEMENT holder from Singapore private institute with 2-3 years experiences in technician.

Based on my qualification, if I get into engineering management job what is the salary range in Singapore?

Thank you.

Thank you.

what do u mean by "engineering mgmt" job?
do u mean manager in charge of a group of engineers? such positions are usually held by engineers who rose through the ranks of senior/principal engineers.
what jobs u r looking interested in?

Maybe I should ask this question first:

What position suits me base on my qualification?

First u ask on how much you can get paid.
Then u ask what job suits you.

U appeared to be too self-centred. Could consider lucky if u can get a decent job from an job interview, based on ur qualification.

You never answer my question, thank you.

Thanks for your meaningless answer.:)

Actually, you should have known or find out about the career prospect for the degree before embarking on it. I suspect it is half engine, half business. Engineering job would be out as they look for people with BEng EEE or ME etc. Hence, admin role would be appropriate, or bank entry level backend job.

I think it will be pretty hard for you to get a job in the first place based on the engineering management qualification itself alone. That being said, you can get another job as a technician based on your previous experience as a technician though so I would say it will may difficult for you to get a job as an engineer. Such a qualification is usually sought by managers who are already overseeing a team of engineers or by senior engineers with the relevant experience who are looking forward to take on a managerial role.

Sorry to break your bubble but you should have took a BEng in the relevant engineering discipline instead of the engineering management degree. Not to mention the fact that your degree is from a private school so it may not be that recognised.

To answer your question, the salary scale for the engineering management job is unknown because you are not likely to be hired in an engineering management job due to the lack of qualifications and relevant experience.

I am SUPER disappointed to see that, anyway, thank you very much.

Bingo, you are very right. Engineering management is those that raises from Senior/Principal Engineer. And if you notice, they are all actually at 30s to 40s. All old bird already.

So, do you have any suggestions for me on pursuing Part-time Degree in Singapore?

I graduated from Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering.

Thank you.

Consider part-time BEng degree with NTU or BTech degree with NUS.

Polytechnic Diploma in a relevant field of Engineering or equivalent local / foreign qualifications. Duration of the diploma must be at least a 3 years course.

If you diploma is from a reputable sch, should be fine.

I see. I think I can only choose PSB Academy.

Thanks.

my advice is to switch to economics, accountacy or finance and try to do well... dun waste your life as an engineer... little prospect and financial returns at the end of the day... i have worked as an engineer for over 10 years.. itz a little too late for me to change track already... you younger generation still got chance to make it right for yourself... dun believe the ******** they tell you about engineering...itz a scam... You will REGRET if you choose this road... your future wife and kids will also suffer with you.... Good luck!!!

mind to share your income? How come a 10-years engineer comments that wife and kids will suffer? I assume u draw 5-6k for average performer with 10 years experience in engineering and I don't see how your wife and kids suffer with this kind of salary.

This is not the 1980s. 5-6k is simply just enough to feed a family of 4 with a 3 rm hdb flat. Everyone will suffer when the kids grow up. Pls have more financial sense of Sg's economic situation.

I studied 5 years in NTU part-time to get my EEE degree..
Having already worked over 10 years in engineering.. my salary still miserable... <4k
Tot that i should take a masters degree to value-add.. But everyone says that most engineering companies will not pay extra for employee who go and pursue engineering master degree ... Feel like damn demoralized..... How to even start family and service a HDB loan..

Unregistered 30-07-2011 08:18 PM

Pay increment for engineers is only on average at about 5%-7% for most engineering companies... Engineers have to job hop to get bigger pay jumps.. but also have to bear in mind that the higher salary you draw, the more likely you'll be the first to get retrench in a engineering company...

These days a lot of retrenched engineers end up driving taxi either because they lose their jobs in their 40s..

Some tried going to job fairs but the employers prefer younger and cheaper FT workers.. Itz just a very sad fate for these older engineer...

There was this one time, a taxi driver told me he was a ex-engineer earning 5k before he was retrench... then he couldn't find job for a long time since he was already in his 40s... Savings also not much due to low pay and high expense due to housing loan and wife not working... Every day stress over money and quarrel with wife... Woman feel that the husband is useless... Eventually divorce followed.. because the woman needed to feel more financially secure.... He was tearing while he shared this...

Unregistered 31-07-2011 01:15 PM

In 2010, 80% of tax-payer earns less than 5k / month. No wonder there are a lot of divorce in Singapore. It does not matter whether you are engineer or non-engineer.

All of them taxi drivers?

no1ne,

you can try for a Production Supervisor/Manufacturing Engineer/Planner position.

I grad with a Mechatronics Diploma and went on to further study in PSB Academy on Mechatronics Engineering. The degree only opened me to more opportunities but not really relevant to what I'm doing.

Good Luck on your job hunt!
