but engineers just oil parts and change light bulbs, do we really need to pay them that much to do simple tasks? only people worth paying for are SWEs who will add value to any organization

hahaha clearly you dont know what an engineer does at the stat boards mentioned in this thread.

But i do agree that SWE are more sought after, as such their salaries are way higher too

If don't pay them well, then who is going to vote for PAP?

Oh wait sorry this is civil service and govt jobs. Not like they would offer if the honours classification is below a certain class. Doubt 2nd lower and 3rd class are even considered. Still need to be of a certain standard. Which means they would have gone to other equally or more prestigious companies and roles.
Actually I wonder why the government is working to offer more to attract more engineers from the private sector. Regardless of their educational backgrounds, those who are already in engineering sector for a long time should have enough experience to pick up where things were left off.

The reason is simple. DSO, DSTA, HTX cannot hire foreigners due to the sensitivity of their projects. Now many engineers are transiting into all sort of industries except engineering because the pay is simply more attractive. So boh bian, need to pay them more.

LTA bonus is 3-4 months excluding AWS, for the past many years. What do you think?

You never mention about their bonus? Think it's about the same overall.

Anyway engineering is quite dead-end job in SG. Work odd hours and always got problem happen. SG working culture encourage OT somemore.

No surprise no one wants to be engineer anymore.
