My current offer is hard to wrap around also, but I also contemplating about it now. Felt a bit low-balled, may be negotiating for a Basic 240k instead.

Is true. Your 200k options are basically toto tickets until they go public.

100% scammed.
Lower than average base + insanely high stocks etc is a huge red flag in any industry.
You compare to other people earning 200k annual, their base is like 120k + 80k stocks RSU or 140k base, 60k stocks, etc.
Haven't IPO / wont IPO in the near future / fire u before IPO = you lose.

hahaha wtf. i bet that guy doesn't understand the implications of exercise price, market price and liquidity events. if there is no discount on exercise price at all, the guy is basically fked. pretty sure the company is also lightyears away from any liquidity event if they can give such options value with such a low basic.
still want to ask for 240k basic, i nearly choked

The entire offer package to me sounds like a start-up with less than 1% chance of going to IPO trying to hard sell their positions to fresh graduates with no idea how job markets work
But I don’t blame the guy for believing it . Maybe same type of mentality as people joining big 4’s 3 k base pay+ Move to commercial and earn 10k/potential of being partner and making millions

To the skeptics, I was just like one of you.
Did engineering in NUS, class of 2017, thought I would be happy and contented to have a monthly of $10K as a career end goal.
Who knows, was fortunate to have joined an internet company, now averaging $16k/month excluding RSUs (which I will not count given company is pre-IPO).
I would really say that tech is the IB of today, of course top IB still pays much better but the work hours are also crazy.
Btw I am non-tech, so I would assume that a SWE would be paid closer to $18-20K on a similar trajectory.
