do you think its suitable for a undergrad to take up a risk management position? or rather do corporation employ undergrad or fresh grad for this position? btw im from uol banking&finance. currently waiting for results

Hi,

I guess you have to realize that there are many different roles in risk management, e.g. portfolio analysis, management reporting, risk modelling, risk systems, collections etc., and there are definitely opportunities for fresh grads. Some of these roles however would require more specific qualifications (e.g., if you want to apply for a risk modelling role as a fresh grad, you'll probably need a good math/stats/econs or other quant degree to be considered).

yup, started my first perm job in late Nov 10 after graduation.

I guess it's decent, but can't really compare what some are getting in foreign banks or front office roles.

Thing is that due to the better than average bonuses that were given out this year, its very likely i'll be worse off financially even after what they are offering..lol..n of course its a risk having to prove myself from scratch again..

or which local bank still plays AWS?
to the best of my knowledge, most foreign banks don't pay AWS (13th month).

Local banks don't pay AWS unless you are clerical grade. Some foreign banks pay AWS depending on the bank. I know a middle eastern bank and a korean bank who pay 3-month AWS (13,14,15 month lol). Japanese banks pay AWS (13th month only) for certain ranks up to senior officer / assistant mgr. If you are above that rank no AWS.

So apart from aws, there is no other bonus (PB, etc ) throughout the year?

Hi,

Care to share more about your jobscope, both current and past?
I have roughly 2 years of working exp in risk management and graduated with a gd hons as well.
But I am not as lucky as you, my current pay is < 3.5k... feel so underpaid after knowing what u are offered by dbs..

There is also PB in the form of a variable bonus. So people get AWS + VB each year.

Does anyone know how much a fresh grad analyst in institutional banking group(DBS) gets paid per month? (excluding high flyers in MA/investment banking)

Unregistered 15-06-2013 10:07 AM

Ex DBS

I was not from institutional banking, but my best guess would be below 3.5k at best.
