Push and pull factors of leaving and looking for a new job.

Hello.

Quick question as I'm someone who barely started working for a year and a half. I'm a graduate from one of the local uni.

For those who are currently employed and thinking of leaving your current job, what do you see as the deciding factor before you call it quits? Is it due to the salary, lack of growth, better oppurtunities elsewhere, bad office politics etc?

And also, what do you look out for in your next job?

Understand that now is the covid period, and as much as people tell you to be thankful that you get to keep your job, sometimes you got to listen to your body and mind, esp when you find yourself stressing up each day. Tho idk if now is the best time to actually quit and just suck it up and let your body crumble lol.

Hence the curiosity.

Exact same situation as you, we're probably the same batch. I'm pretty much looking for an expanded role. Given how I'm just starting in my career, i'm looking for wider exposure in my chosen field as I realized that experience trumps everything

I think it can be any of the factors you named. It all depends on your own circumstances.
General rule of thumb - never do the same role for more than 3years. Always look for a promotion or move to a different department to acquire new skills. Alternatively move to another company in a same role for higher pay cheque.

I think if you are a freshie, you would need to suck it up and get the experience and network.
It's very competitive and will be even more going forward. Welcome to the rat race.
