Singaporean churn out educated people grade smart yes.

But it doesn't translate to $$$$

Cause got a lot of smart people. But if all this smart people think of how to be a millionaire and generate that wealth and not expect gahmen money...

You'll realizwd that we teach out kids to be grade smart only.
They lack the skills to compete..

Lawyer high pay cause the client high pay
Medical doctor high pay cuss guess what when you sick go hospital the bill so expensive. BTW nurse are low paid to maintain that blanace.

So tech high pay? Customer have to pay more lo.
Google Facebook etc make money from advertising.

Tech company doesn't run on tech.
They run on advertisement.

is not a tech company. Yet its revenue is from advertisement.

Singapore fresh grad think tech rules the world. Sorry.
Its business that rules this world. Tech is just a tool.
And you fresh grad are just a tool.
A expensive tool that frankly doesn't justify the starting pay.

Think most of y'all don't realise that not all tech companies pay very high. Yes G, FB, Bytedance can afford 7-8K starting cuz they are looking for the best. They have recognised long ago that its not about what the fresh grad can do now, but the potential they have in the future. They know that a rockstar software engineer can potentially bring in millions. There are also other lower tier companies that pay 4-5K.

Isn't all this also similar in other industries like finance, investment banking, consulting. Higher tier companies can poach talent with their higher salaries, while lower tiers pay lesser? Whats so surprising here?

Also, if y'all are wondering why on average software engineers are paid higher than other industries. It's because the potential impact per software engineers is, on average, bigger than other industries. Software engineering is not tied down by scale; each engineer can make a difference to 100s, 1000s, 1m++ customers. This may not be possible in other industries such as nursing, law ... where 1 can only handle a few (cases) per day. This translates to higher profits per head for software engineers -> higher pay

Im not justifying that software engineers sold be paid highly, it's just to way the market is as of now. Definitely nurses should be paid more as they are doing a great service to society, while we play around with python.

You want to bring honours class up? If you are from NUS and willing to provide your matriculation number, I will make sure I find out if you are competencies through Prof B. To you maybe its not doable, but how do you know those from NUS can't do it?

Anyway you mind showing us your WBS?

Haha you all go join bytedance lo it's china company.
china notorious for overtime... news of someone died from overwork.
they have to worked from 11 am to 11 pm 6 days a week.

High pay suree.... when you have no life and worked like bull.
If u count by hours, you'll just end up with better hours and lower pay is a much much better deal.

I'm overtime coding now still at work. just had quick mcdonald dinner. think can only finish around 1130 pm. take cab home midnight zzz totally no life.

tomorrow wake up repeat ...
I only started working half a year and I'm already burn out.
how do people in tech do this non stop for 10 to 20 years?

i'm so tired can't think. want to go home
but my boss is still around she is not coding though just supervising us LOL
stayed back with us for morale support buy dinner...
ok la nice of her la...
but also make us feel like she has no real purpose in delivering the project...

some of us wished she will go back.
then we can all go back earlier than 930 pm and then still claim cab fare and overtime.

if i can choose another careeer, i won't pick one so long hours.
i will definitey work less and accept a lower pay.

Im from shopee and I am aware of the OT culture, but only those PRC does that. OT is not mandatory for us, so I always finish my work and leave on time. It really depends on how efficient you are when it comes to tech field
