Can I start new employment while serving notice
Hi
I am leaving statutory board for a new job at private company.
Can I start the new employment while serving notice? I have around 5 weeks of leave to clear. And I cannot encash my leave or shorten my notice period as I am waiting for bonuses.
Just like to hear any opinions from here before asking my HR on such sensitive matters.
Thank you.

no, u cant be employed full-time in 2 firms concurrently. you cant have your cake and eat it.
furthermore, unlikely will have any bonus this year for public servant. just your 1 month AWS, just forgo it and start ur new role earlier

I doubt it is a crime to do that...just a breach of contract (possibly to both employers)...and if you don't get caught and/or the breach is not worth pursuing for both employers...then you win liao lor. ..
Just my opinion la.

it will be found out when both firms try to submit his income to iras. why even take the risk, for just 1 month AWS?

I tot it's none of IRAS business where you earn from? As long as you pay your taxes.
Why would IRAS bother to investigate if my dual employment is a breach of my private contract with 2 employers? Maybe I got approval from both to do 2 jobs, maybe I got approval from one, maybe I got no approval - no matter what it is private contract only.
If IRAS is so bo liao to investigate this kind of private contractual matters and report to the respective HRs then I think they are wasting public resources on things that are not within the purpose for their existence.

Under mom law no.
Forgo ur aws and go to ur new job.
If u are in Cs what's the point in risking it
BTW mom site already mentioned about working in notice period
If you are servins://. mom.gov.sg/employment-practices/termination-of-employment/termination-with-notice
g notice, you are still considered an employee of your current employer.
You should check with your existing employer whether you can start work with your new employer during your notice period.

not iras will report. but the 2nd firm trying to file will find out there's overlapping employment, and they will verify with the other firm.
what consequences depend on current employer policies
the main question remains, why even bother doing this?

Basically threading on dangerous waters here.
You will be breaking MOM laws and your work contract, basically you risk your AWS and potential further losses if you are being brought to task.
So the smarter way to deal with this is just to honestly tell your next job about your situation, and start on a given date to them, they can wait. you are confirmed.
