PAX3 is the equivalent of DD in ministry and other statutory board, so what do you think huh?

PAX 3 is about the equivalent of MX10 in the Ministry. A number of my friends (mid-30s to 40s) are in this grade so it is not so difficult to reach this level in the civil service nowadays.

More of the upper scale of MX10.

There is something wrong in the pay structure for poly lecturers when secondary school teachers are earning more than them (not majority but a significant number). These lecturers have working experiences and I am surprised that the pay structure does not support excellence and commitment. This is pertinent as the polys are such important institutions in Singapore catering to both the market and universities.

To be honest, poly lecturer has more free time than sch teacher....and less stress..for a start, we don't have to bother with students' grade....unlike sch teacher, students' grade are their KPI, if student in their class dont do well, esp PSLE, O & A level, they can forget about their appraisal...then there is the issue of sch branding and ranking....for poly lecturer...we are not responsible if student dont do well and we are not involved in sch ranking...so only teach, do some projects and sit in some committee

It does not mean that if marking is not their KPI, their salary should remain low. If that is the case, all university lecturers should have low pay as well asand all managment staff because they do not do operational work.

I am not a poly lecturer but I have friends who are. They are just under compensated in my opinion given their broad industry knowledge PLUS passion for teaching.

Poly lecturing is a retirement job. As long as you are in PAX4, it is a very very comfortable salary. poly lecturer suka suka will dont come to school if there is no lesson. school teachers cannot.

Uni lecturers have research publications kpi, not everyone can write paper, many phd graduates cant even get a paper published in a decent journal.

I think by and large secondary school teachers do not earn more than poly lecturers. For those who do not want to take up leadership positions, the salary cap is about 7k plus, maybe 8k. There are higher grades in the teaching track but to reach those levels, you have to be a senior or master teacher, and would have to do more than just teach.

When will a normal teacher reach her salary cap?

i think on the median, and probably mode as well, poly lecturers earn more than MOE teachers. reason being poly lecturers are experienced. to be hired you need industry experience, even RP has changed and many of it's lecturers who came in with my industry experience are quietly "forced" to leave.

MOE teacher turnover very high, and the bulk are new earning less than <4k. In poly, lecturer turnover is low, and i am very confident that most make >4k (unless they have no industry exprience)

polytechnics are a stat board, and they have their own structures which they can adjust. also they face stiff competition from not just each other (5 polytechnics are known to compete fiercely), but also the Private Education players like SIM, MDIS, Kaplan, Raffles Education who require similar staff profiles, so it is not suprising that they salaries are competitive.

Poly lecturers are more than teachers, they have experience and contacts with industry and drive our economy. 40% of o level leavers go to poly. it is still after all these years the backbone of our economy.
