Be glad that they are willing to take you because your 4 yrs of exp at stat board are totally irrelevant to all diploma courses. They usually look for industry practioners. Meaning pte sectors.
3.5k is reasonable. I supposed is same or slightly more than wat u get currently. Poly is also stat board.

Its because you are considered as a high flyer there. Could be your luck, could be your religion same as the senior mgt (same Father, hence brothers hence got to take good care of you).

I think I know what you meant. It is a open knowledge that many people on the senior leadership team are from certain religuon group. Now even at course managers level also that religion. Even more ridiculous, many common employees try to score points with the management by putting certain religious quotes as part of their email signatures. Either you are in or you are out.

Default Should I take the offer?

Hello,

I have been working in a bank for 20 years. Cluster head. But retrenched recently. Pay was about 48k per year, 4.3k pm. A poly offered me an admin position for 6k pm. I am a degree holder.

They also indicated that they are looking to appoint me as a section head in 2 years time if I do well. They added that my duties are is perform over the counter duties and performing mailing duties.

I always thought joining poly is to take a pay cut as this thread suggest. Any catch how come I am paid much more than the banks? And also how come functional role like mail duties, customer service; mail boy get paid 6k?

By the way, I have another friend who was my junior in the bank and went to join the poly recently, he worked there for about a year and is now a Section Head, he has not upgraded and is still holding a Diploma in Financial Studies. Does that I mean I will be the same grade/ pay scale as my friend if I were to be appointed as a Section head?

Would appreciate some clarificaton. Thank you!

Do you have a better offer? If not just take this and do your best.

Your previous pay of $48k pa is low for someone with 20 years experience. And I thought banks pay very well.

The poly position might require some planning and other responsibilities to commensurate the $6k pm pay. It is quite high, considering the bonuses and 13th month pay still to be included. If it is not a new position, you might want to find out why the previous person left. Was it because that person had a better offer elsewhere? Or was it because of stress? Or contract not renewed? So enjoy it while you can. Don't gloat too early.

People who joined poly mid-career and suffered pay cuts usually joined as lecturers. These people are professionals (eg engineers, lawyers, accountants) who are typically paid more outside.
