Progression in Career

Hi guys,

I would like some tips/suggestions on how to progress after a career switch. I was from a Science Diploma which hopped into IT. I was employed as an IT Technician but my job scope does not really cover much of IT at SME with 10-20 employees. I do some basic IT troubleshooting and also many other stuffs such as finance etc. however, I feel that I don't learn much as compared to having a proper technical support job. I know that they gave me a chance on a career but right now, 1 year in, I am not sure whether I should find a company that makes me learn more of IT? :D

New graduates and mid-career switchers looking to enter a new industry or start a career that is unrelated to their past accumulated work experience should also adjust their salary expectations. Even though they may be taking home a lower salary, they would be able to acquire new skills and gain experiences. It depends on what you want to be in the next 3 years. I will advise you to read this blog https://www.computercareers.org/, here is a lot of information about the IT domain and their jobs. You can choose your favorite one, take knowledge in it. Now there are so many courses on the Internet that you can learn some basic information overnight. I am this field for years, I am a project manager. I have my team with which we create apps for Appstore. It is interesting and I love what I do. Moreover, it brings me a good income.
