0. Why would someone pay you 5k if you have 0 background? If you are in finance, you can only get an insurance job with 0 monthly pay. Only comission is given.

DBS rich mah. That's why can mass hire 5k/pax without interview, only via hackathon and basic coding questions

It's not that. So long as you show basic coding proficiency, you are above the population average for technical ability. tech market is currently overheated and DBS can't attract top talent with skills, so they settle for this. Good coders go to FANG, Bytedance, Shopee, govtech, foreign banks.

DBS is still small compared to bigtech. Bigtech has 3x dbs revenue growth, 25x dbs market cap. Even their operations incasia is much bigger than DBS and they hire much lesser people. Thats why when people here said bigtech paid too much how they can survive, it is a joke. They can easily afford to pay 30k per month per headcount and still very profitable, but of course they try to adjust to the market rate. They have their internal calculation like top 5% compensation times some multiplier.

DBS seed doesn't pay nearly as well as Big Tech. Add on inferior branding and it's no surprise that they can't attract proper tech talent. It's well-known in the tech community that local uni CS grads shun the three local banks.
