I asked the same questions to my friends who are currently in SEED programme for a couple of months. Their response? "I'm still trying to figure out"

Gg LOL. But whenever a bank mass hires so much its already a red flag and an indication of their turnover rates

Just like big 4.

Unregistered 15-05-2021 05:46 PM

so much misinformation in this thread. its still 5k starting. and as someone who has completed the programme, career progression is good if you dont suck, and depends on your department. this programme is sort of a fast track. the best thing about this programme is it opens the door to fintech jobs. me and my peers are all well set for a career in (but not limited to) any bank we choose now. multiple offers from global banks but waiting for promotion first to use as leverage for higher pay. only downside is working in banks will not be as exciting as compared to friends in FAANG. can guarantee all of the negative people are all those rejected. try harder losers

Only got one downside? Come, let me share more.

1. Even in the banking industry, local banks like DBS are ranked behind some other regional banks. International and BBs dont even need to say.

2. Progression both in terms of career and salary is laughable (which explains why you need to wait to get promoted so that you have higher negotiating power with recruiters)

3. Not much transferable skills and you don’t really specialise and become an expert in a certain field/function.

4. They take almost everyone so essentially the market is flooded with ppl from SEED. Low barriers to entry and not much prestige.

5. Most of them are based in Changi.

Others, feel free to chime in.

i personally have offers from citi and jp for associate after 2years in seed. 2 colleagues in the programme have left for goldman after less than 2years in seed getting higher than me. only bank that i got clear rejection from is morgan stanley and only because they dont hire singaporeans for the roles i want. seed still too new to see the long term benefits but so far, getting opportunities to all this banks means alumni are highly sought after. posting from unregistered want talk about linkedin? LOLs fkin reject really. if you really think u that good, you wont be in a thread about a programme for fresh grads, especially since u are not part of it :)

>get rejected from programme
>bookmark seed thread to anonymously bash everyday
>hopefully all the good people get scared dont want join so u only have to compete with people your level.

1. dbs pays the highest out of the local banks for years. check the other threads if u need confirmation.

2. seeders get promoted faster than direct hires assuming both at the same skill level/experience.

3. this problem idk what to say, but i was given plenty of time and resources to choose what i want to learn.

4. lol not true. see how many salty people in here and u know alot of people get rejected. only people who benefit from shitting on this programme are those on waiting list or those who completed the programme wanting to share. all i see are people trying to brag about their better job. think about it, who from a FAANG or any respectable company will take their time to join a discussion about a fresh graduate programme to say they have a better job/more pay

5. i dont see how this is an issue. most people wfh now

No matter how lousy a programme is, if they pay really 5k there is no such thing as low barrier to entry. if not singapore median income for tech fresh grad will be 5k. i think only cs median higher than that. not much prestige is true.

1. Pay the highest out of all local banks doesnt mean highest in the industry (banking). If a company is reputable, it should have the ability to pay less yet attract talent. Just see MBB comp vs Tier 2 consultancies + how EBs comp as opposed to BBs. The interpretation of offering the highest salary (disclaimer: just amongst DBS, UOB and OCBC) is thus subjective.

2. Not guaranteed. And not surprising considering it’s a grad programme. Regardless, still sluggish vis-a-vis the industry avg for someone who joins a graduate programme after uni.

3. Yup, not specialised and hence no bargaining power. This explains why you’re still stuck in DBS despite “receiving offers from many global banks”. In short, career and salary progression is abysmal for SEEDers even if you wish to leave. Other companies wouldn’t pay a premium.

4. Almost everyone knows DBS SEED hires a huge bunch of grads every year. Most are just trash (as seen in previous complaints here about AC candidates). It’d do you good if you learn how to differentiate when someone is being honest vs being salty.

5. Not gonna be 100% WFH and eventually employees will return back to office. If I’m not mistaken, Gupta actually sees the need for physical interaction at the workplace (actually said this in an interview). Anyway, most of my friends in DBS tech still has to go back to the DBS Asia Hub for meetings, take stuff, rectify stuff and return stuff during COVID.

Hahaha ********. If it was that good their turnover wouldnt be so high alr

Unregistered 16-05-2021 06:46 PM

If you are a CS grad, you don’t aim for DBS. FAANG > Unicorns > Other Big Tech (SAP, IBM etc) > International Banks/Tech Consulting > Local Banks and the likes

DBS paying 5k cus no one who’s good enough wishes to join them lol. Progression stagnates anw so you can expect to be stuck below 10k for a long long time.

sry leh kor kor, didn’t know u are forum moderator. im in this thread cus im browsing salary.sg and wld like to provide valuable info to some of the lurkers here. can not kor kor? cmon, the very fact that you are still in dbs + not competitive enough to land tech roles elsewhere after graduation speaks volume.

still waiting for you to post ur linkedin big shot ;)

Well in terms of tech and AI, dbs are still the forerunners (at least amongst other financial instututions in Singapore)

I somewhat agree but IBM is not a good example. They only have consulting business here in Singapore. Paypal, Mastercard will be a better example.

You should compare the number of sw engineers/ data scientists in other banks vs dbs on linkedin. Dbs has the biggest share of the consumer banking market in singapore (i.e. the most users for their products) and would therefore invest the most into their tech offerings here (e.g. being the first bank to be awarded digital banking license). Of corse they are stil behind bigtech but for a finance tech job in Singapore they are a solid choice.

Spot on. They have to bump the pay to attract talent, but too bad those that they get in are still cui.

LOL cui but at least still Singaporeans, and better than hiring FTs outright hor? So if banks hire so many FTs then KBWs complain so many CECAs, then how?

What's wrong with hiring SG but "still cui"?

As mentioned, the offers have all been given on Hackathon day itself/ the day after.

Good luck waiting.

Anyone knows how long it takes to get the offer after receiving the shortlisted email?
