Default Civil engineering pay

How much can a civil engineer fresh grad expect to earn in the coming years? Is career prospects and pay rises better now, especially for early to mid career? Im about to start uni and chose civil engineering... know that sg pays engineers quite badly in the pAst so thinking twice.

My advice to you, change track while you still can. Civil engineering is not worth anyone’s time

I know all sorts of engineering had been bad the past decade or so, but in 2016 the gov did announce that they’d try to support engineers more and actually gave a 20% pay boost to all engineers in the public sector. So was just wondering how it’s like these days

Default Site Engineer (Civil)

If you work for a builder (contractor), be prepared to work really hard and with your time tight up at work. I graduated from NTU back in 2018 and joined a builder firm. Working hours are normally 8am-7pm/8am-9pm, 6Days week. Fresh Engineers Paycheck you are looking at about Low-mid 3k.

Suggest you head into Govt agency or change track unless you are willing to slog hard in the line. Industry is saturated with more affordable and ‘less demanding’ foreigners as compared to SG/SGPR thus your paycheck demands might not be justified.

There are few bright sides to the job, it is not desk bound. You get firsthand experience into how the construction industry works. If you meet the right bosses and perform well, you may be groomed to climb the hierarchy.

Nevertheless, it’s all still hard work especially on the builder end. I wish you the best and hustle hard.

Fully agree, being an engineer is never easy, dont be in it if it's for the money.
My personal experience is 8am-7pm daily and most of the time OT because FT all doing OT everyday. No choice.

Tough but at the end of the day, it's work to put rice on the table.

Fresh grad expected earning is around 3.6 and has bern stagnant for like what 5-6 years? Run away as early as u can. If u are alrdy in civil, change course as soon as u can. Civil engineers pay was, is still and will always be low (unless u can join gov).. dun need to think twice and waste ur time there, the prospect is nvr gonna get better.. What i observe now is that the number of ppl leaving the industry is sheesh..

This is very true, FT will work from 7am to 10pm and let bosses know they OT and complete the job the very next day. Unless you want to compete with them in this never ending cycle of slogging, think very carefully.
