Salary as a TSO in Poly

Hi ppl!

Just wanna ask abt the salary increment and promotion as a Technical Support Officer (TSO) in poly.

I entered in Feb 2007 (23yrs old) with a Diploma as a Grade 6 TSO earning ard S$1.9k before CPF.

Now after 4 years, i'm earning exactly S$2353 before CPF excluding bonuses etc. But i'm still a Grade 6.
Since the day I joined, I got the following grades for my PB:
2007 -> B
2008 -> A
2009 -> A
2010 -> A
2011 -> ??? getting letter soon before 31st Mar

Is the salary i'm getting now considered underpaid?
Anyone working in Poly as a TSO can share your promotion period? After how long then you get promoted?

Thanks!

Ask for $3K at least, taking into account today's inflation.

You have to job hop to another organization in order to give yourself a pay raise. Loyalty is a good value but it doesn't help you financially.

Most diploma holders in public service suffer when it comes to increment. My wife (who also has a diploma) joined a stat board in 2005 and by 2010, she has gotten only $500 raise. Compared to me, I joined public service in 2005 and by 2011, i've gotten almost $2000 worth of increments.

She quit her job and joined private... a bit more pay but super less work... both happy :)

They don't give a s.h.i.t about experience lah.. Civil service emphasize more on you possessing excellent academic qualifications eg.. 1st class honors, 2nd upper... If just a diploma holder, you don't have to dream that you can earn superscale salary if you work hard..... No hope for the lowly educated.. You are better off taking your chances doing sales in the private sector!!

As a diploma holder, how much do you think you worth in the private sector? Either upgrade yourself or join stat board. At least stat board iron rice bowl till you retire.

Yes, government job is academic biased. If you're confident in yourself and abilities (with no family commitment), move on to private sector, esp when you've little to lose and lots to gain when young. Not like me - a graduate + parental commitment - stuck in government jobs and worry about here and there e.g. family time, job security, salary etc when thinking of moving out to private sectors.

Contract term? That sucks. The only attractiveness about civil service and stat board is the iron rice bowl. If that is taken away I don't see why people want to join. Luckily there are still stat boards offering permanent positions.
