Would you be able to share why SCB is not doing well? Is this Internationally or in Singapore?

I know it's not the best climate now, but I'm keen to get a ball park around expectations. I've never worked in banking in Singapore (but I have overseas), so would be keen to hear some figures.

Also, would it be correct to say (for e.g. in DBS standards) Band 4 is the equivalent of SVP and band 5 VP.

Thanks again.

Thank you. Appreciate the insight. Are / were you in SCB?

Any other insights you can share? How's the culture in ops? At band 4/5, how's the workload, work life balance?

Dont go ops, scb or any other bank. It's unglamorous, manual work with no future (under threat from automation). Ops bosses are not looking for hungry, driven individuals, and you can understand why. Alot of the work is basically data entry and verification, so there's little chance to shine. Many aunties and uncles (more aunties, really) who have been there donkey years and are content to do the same work till they retire. So if you're looking for a challenging or dynamic work environment, not the place for you.

I shouldn't have used the word Ops as it was probably too generic. I could think of a term that would describe the role without disclosing too much.

But perhaps think of it as business and process re engineering, change management and innovation. Definatly not anything manual or data entry.

Ex SCB staff. SCB has Analyst, Associate, Associate Director, Director and Executive Director etc. Their Director is equivalent to VP of Credit Suisse, Citi, Baml.

UOB, HSBC and Citi VP stretches across a wider salary range. I.e An AVP in other banks can be drawing similar salary to a VP in these banks. But that does not mean all VPs in these banks are actually AVP salaries in other banks.

Goldman VP= ED.

Most middle office, back office roles like Compliance, Audit, Risk Management, COO starts off with SGD10k once you hit a VP. But that also does not mean someone drawing 12k or 13k cannot be AVP.

I am quite confident of these facts having been in banking industry for some time, through conversations with friends and having look at different bank salaries in Big 4 as an External Auditor.

Can you guys please stop with the misinformation.

among the local banks, UOB has the most inflated rank structure.

their AVP (3rd lowest) is equivalent to Manager 6 (3rd lowest) in OCBC and Senior Associate (3rd lowest) or even Associate in DBS.

nowadays DBS rank structure getting less inflated.
I know of an experienced VP(1) in UOB getting only AVP in DBS when he cross over.
and an experienced AVP in UOB getting only Senior Associate in DBS.

among the three most popular foreign banks (Citi, SCB and HSBC), HSBC rank structure is the most inflated. AVP is easy to get and is not even a team lead position most of the time.

Citi rank structure is very similar to DBS.

In other words, is difficult to determine how much one is making just base on the title and rank.

AVP in BnP can be 7k and can also be 12k
VP in HSBC can be 8k and can also be 13k
Associate Director in SCB can be 7k and can be 12k

Salary range for each pay grade will overlap with each other.
