Default How bad it is to have signed a contract and reject it later?

I have signed the contract with Coy A and will be commencing my new job in 1 weeks time. A better job offer from Coy B unexpectedly came up and I'm seriously tempted to accept the new offer.

Besides having the guilt of "flying Coy A aeroplane", I'm also worried that I'll be blacklisted in the future within the same industry.

How bad it is actually? Anyone with similar experiences?

If u have already signed the contract then u got to serve the notice period b4 u can leave right, else need to payback the notice period.

I was in the same situation whereby the second offer came on the same day I signed the contract. If I were to break the contract, I will have to pay back one month salary to the employment agency and half a month to the company.

Loyalty to company is worthless in this day and age.
Especially to one which you have not even started work for.
Word does travel fast but what makes you think:
1) your future company will check with all the companies in the same industry
2) Coy B will spread word of your "betrayal" around in the industry

Not true
... Haven start work contract hasn't take into effect.
Even if its black list, by suing is kinda troublesome just to get that one month pay.. Legal fees itself cost more than tat one month salary u have to pay..

They wouldn't want a person without heart to serve thru that 1 month anyway just to fulfil the contract.. Logical? Believe it

You are above 21 yrs old right? Then you are legally bound by the contract you signed unless you can prove that you were under duress when you sign. Breaching the contract improperly is a no no. People keep records. Unless you think you will forever be a nobody, make sure as far as possible have a clean record.

Look at the contract and see what the terms are for termination. It may just require 1 month's notice or a penalty payment equivalent of a month's pay. So do it properly, and there will be less of a blackmark issue. This should not be a complicated case unlike those who are bonded for a certain period because of scholarship or other training courses sponsored by the company.

Basically looks at the terms, if can break, just break it, no such thing as reputation or whatever crap. The cb coy A give you such a lousy deal and still got the audacity to go and spread about it? Really? like reeeeeeeeeeeealy?

It is stated as a one month notice period in the contract. However I have not started my first day of work yet.

In perspective, is the notice period still necessary? I understand that based on labour laws, as long as you did not commence work you're not bounded by the agreement? No...?

Best not to burn bridges. Who knows Coy B environment may be hell that's why they offer better salary? Then what? crawl back to Coy A?

If you break cleanly, Coy A may get good impression that you are a responsible kind of person, one who is also knowledgeable of the implication of signing a contract.

In my coy, there are people they want to keep and there are people they dont want to see again ever. Those that they want, they will still take them back after they resign to taste what's like in other companies. So always, be mindful.

Did you sign a Letter of Appointment or Contract? A Contract of Service (read your contract) should only commence when you start work, so technically, if you haven't started work, you are not gainfully employed by anybody. There should be no termination notice of compensation.

Do you use headhunter?

Next, look at your industry, is it a very small group where you will be regularly crossing paths with Coy A?

Other than monetary, what about prospects?

Fyi, it is quite prevalent, and Coy A will know they gave you an inferior deal, so nothing to lose really.
