yes definitely it will be subject to your individual employability and the hiring climate of your industry. However, with all accomplishments and resume contents constant, i can definitely say it was the change of resume design that helped in my case hahaha. But yep, good point - cover letter is important too. I tailored every single cover letter to every job i applied for haha! And regarding the keywords, that's also why i urge people to flesh out their skills more to match it to the specific job scope. ok i know people advise to just apply for whatever and see what you get, but thats not very helpful advice because if the keywords in your resume dont even match the profile of the jobs you applied for, HR is gonna skip as well. Try to increase your chances by narrowing down your scope to specific types of jobs too, which is what I did.

In my case, i knew i wanted to be in a public facing role which involved community/communications/outreach etc. So i made sure to flesh out certain skills in my resume that resonated with the relevant job profiles.

Hmm, mind sharing your gender, which Uni (local/private) and honors classification? That plays a part too!

as for pay cut i think adjustments may be inevitable in view of the current economic downturn

For anyone who used to be a driver during NS and came out with a Class 3/4 license, or who already has a driving license themselves, I highly suggest looking to apply for Prime Mover Driving jobs with either PSA subcontractor companies like HT Port Services or Seafront Support Company, or PSA directly if you come across any ads for similar jobs. In this economic climate, guaranteed $3k/month minimum (and up to 3.7k if you max your shifts out) is something to be cherished and sought for.

Forget about white collar work in SG now for the next year or two. That job industry's ****ed. With remote working will come inevitable company downsizing. Whoever is unlucky enough to remain will increasingly wear many more hats whilst still collecting the same pay. Go for blue-collar skilled jobs that you either already have the license for, or are willing to learn. Many such industries hold Singaporean applicants like gold dust now, especially when the immediate future of cheap foreign labour in SG has never looked worse. It's OUR job market now in areas like logistics, port services and shipping. Promotion chances are excellent too, again mainly because of our nationalities, though being graduates or already having the right licenses or displaying competency on the job certainly helps too.

Perhaps you can consider trying to find a post-graduation internship. With companies cutting their full-time headcount / freezing full-time hiring, some companies are relying on interns to support their manpower needs.

Even though you'll be drawing an intern salary, you'll have relevant experiences to 'sell' to your next employer and still able to develop relevant skills.

Here's also a useful list of curated Covid-19 career resources. Hope it'll be helpful for others who's been job hunting for a while.

Includes companies & jobs that are still hiring, recession job hunting tips, interview prep, mental wellness, etc.

Default Don't lose hope

I graduated in Dec '09 and it took me 6 months + 300 resumes sent to get 3 interviews. Of which 1 rejected me and i had 2 offers for measly salary range of $30-34k p.a. range. I took the bottom one out of interest.

Fast forward 7.5 years later, my salary was $150k p.a. It's reaching 10th year of my work life now and it is $240k p.a.

Just need to keep going, learn as much as possible - at work and out of work and you never know where things will take you. Also i don't think one should be too proud about a high pay package as well - the higher you climb, the harder you fall. In times of pandemic like these, who needs an investment banker or management consultant?

In fact, we need the tireless grocery store packers to continue working, the logistics industry to ensure the supply chain continues and our delivery riders/drivers braving the rain and heat to continue bringing us our food.
