I took a one year break, it was worthwhile only if you have a detailed plan.

After reading these posts and much deliberation, i have decided NOT to go for a year-long sabbatical. A re-prioritisation in office work will be more effective in nipping the problem in the bud. The other considerations are, firstly, i do not need to up-skill at this juncture. Secondly, i do not want to kill the goose which is laying golden eggs. Thank u everyone for your contributions.

Am an English teacher and have to share that the other guy is right. Fortune can have 2 different meaning. Let us learn from each other and have civil discussion. This is an interesting thread, have been interested in sabbatical too.

Firstly, it doesn't matter whether you are an English teacher or not. This is immaterial, lest you opine that your profession helps you to assert yourself. Posters here are not your students. Get this right.
Secondly, no one is being uncivil. Don't overthink.

Fortune /ˈfɔːtʃuːn,ˈfɔːtʃ(ə)n/
noun
1. chance or luck as an arbitrary force affecting human affairs.
2. a large amount of money or assets.
