The opportunity cost of my 2yr break is about 120k but the value of rest to my health and wellness is priceless.
if you need a break, take it.

Think about it carefully, and if you still want it, do it
Took a gap year, did a masters. Didn’t regret a single moment of it.
However, it’s more driven by personal reasons than furthering my career. If you take a masters with the sole purpose of boosting your career, you MAY end up disappointed. Do your math and you’ll find that the opp cost, school fees and overseas living expenses are higher than an imaginary or projected salary increase.
So I’ll encourage it if the motivation is something other than money - life experience, a break to recuperate from burn out, personal development etc.
That said, CHECK YOUR FINANCES AND LIFE SITUATION before doing it. Do NOT do anything that will put you in debt. If you are attached or have a family, ask them for their input. Otherwise you’ll come back with worse mental health/burnout/regrets.

Isn't Masters curriculum itself quite stressful?
Did you really have time to rest, or were you mostly just studying all the way

Many people pursue their passion and make money out of it.
Just because you don't have the fortune of doing that, doesn't mean others won't have it

What happens when they have to actually get a job and support a family?

This thread is also for those who took a break in the middle of their career. Learn to read.

The reply is specifically directed at students for the very reason that the thread is also for mid-career gap yearers. Perhaps YOU should learn to read, you utter pillock.

How many people actually succeed in doing that? It's the minority
