If the service wishes to stay competitive and attract the best talent, then yes a promotion increment should be minimum 4digit. But if they do that, they must also make it much easier to sack underperforming individuals, just like in the private sector.

Maybe most of them, except the smallest of SMEs like small family run provision shops?
Just read through this forum, the average earnings and savings are much too high for $50 or even $500 increment on promotion. It has to be in the thousands each time for it to add up.
The only thread where increment is off the charts low seems to be the Civil Service thread.

I got $300 promotion increment from MX13 to MX12, and $500 for MX12 to MX11. I'm told this is normal. Hmm.........

ya.. there is a small range, i believe it also depends on the "grade" you have at your promotion year.
e.g. you got a A and promote is diff from you got a C+ and promote becauae the increment you get comprises of 2 component, promotional increment (i think same for all) and merit increment for that year
alittle deeper, i believe CEP also matters

and by the way, if you realise.. your increment is higher as you promote at higher grade.
so your increment is not very much diff from mine =)
e.g
13 to 12 = $300
12 to 11 = $500
11 to 11a = $800
11a to 10 = $1200
