Many degree holders are earning $3-4+k with families to support and mortgages to pay. This, along with the way they made a spectacle of out teachers with the carpark debacle shows how they really regard us. We are taken for granted.

It is all about perpective. We are in a profession that is largely recession-proof. That itself is something to be thankful for. If you been through the 2009 recession, you would know that when the economy went up again, they gave the CS some extra for the "hardship" endured during the 2009 bonus cut. Take a lot term view, and it will balance out in the end. Even though there are a lot of OT in CS, I never have to worry about getting fired. For a family man with a mortgage, I am truely thankful for the stability. Remember the same cannot be said for people in the private sector.

Hard work is compensated through your performance bonus and annual increment (assuming a non adverse grade). The mid and end year bonuses (excluding 13 month) is given based on Singapore economic performance. If SG earns less then we also earn less lor. When we budget our personal finances, have to assume that certain income are variable so adjust accordingly. All the best.

So entitled. Dont feel appreciated in your job then just change job like the rest of us in private sector, instead of whining about the PAP. So strange that the government is whining about the government. The rest of us dont have such a privilege. When we don't like our job we no choice but to look for new one.

CS performance this year has been quite lacking too. Look at all the ways they dropped the ball. You think the PMD riders whose jobs you have took away are happy? And dont try to siam and say its the politicians' fault, we all know public servants contribute and make these decisions too. Only in CS you will see these kind of entitlement. F up so many times but still somehow expect bonus. Your performance shouldnt be based on how many hours you work, but the results from what you do.

I don’t get the hatred and vitriol directed at CS - the anger and frustration goes beyond simply entitlement. Sure it’s easy to assume that in the private vs public debate, CS appears to have the “better deal”. But invalidating someone else’s anger is as pointless as a lack of constructive criticism.
Why would anyone think the whole CS is involved in the making of the PMD policy is beyond me.

The people who are complaining in this post need to walk the ground more. They have no idea how bad it is in many sectors.

The grass is greener on the other side.

The pte ppl will say CS have it lucky, still got bonus. But they will not join CS.
The CS will say the pte have it lucky, bonus more than 1.55. But they cannot take the demands of pte.

Wah are you joking? I have been to both places and the fact is that CS has got a lot more annual bonuses compared to pte/glc.

CS: mid year bonus, end year bonus, performance bonus, corporate bonus, 13th mth pay, and etc $$ benefits.

PTE/GLC: Performance bonus, 13th mth pay, some.. corporate bonus.

By comparing the performance bonus (PB) alone, CS already a clear winner. usually 2mths for the average.

Even the default annual leave provided in CS > PTE/GLC.

LOL @ CS complaining about receiving 0.1 mth bonus just for this year.

Just note that most private sector companies dont even have AWS. Only PB which can be just 1 month, more or less depending on company performance. And they work just as hard. This is just to give some perspective.

Most important thing is you have a stable and secured job in the civil service. In private sector, not many people have this security and stability.
