BB ops. Good work life balance and decent pay.

What level of extracirrucular involvement is expected from students trying to break into high finance, particularly ib?

Join other stuff of your interest. Unless you really like the investment club
I am quite sick of reading the same resume, and the investment club meant nothing.

Im intending to join the cross uni student fund once I matriculate but other than that, mainly thinking of other things like dance and competitive sports. Also have a place in a student group (non-finance) already. Do you think that's enough exposure to finance sector if I do some finance comps and aggressively pursue internships?

Internship experience, knowledge, how you think about things, language skills depending on role (technical part). How you carry yourself, attitude, personality (fit part). All interviews are about technical and fit, and other intangibles.
Dance and competitive sports are fine. CCAs should be for things that you enjoy. I prefer to talk to a real person instead of a standardized mould
Nothing against people who joined the faculty club or investment clubs (I did that too), but from my perspective (interview both interns and experienced), I really don't care about it.

This is from my own buyside fo perspective, so maybe IB peeps have different standards.
Every year there is a new batch of aspiring IB/FO undergraduates, with the same resume. Multiple internships, investment/faculty clubs, some volunteering exercise, and now add in python or tableau. It is ok to have the same resume, but I need to feel that you actually know what you are doing and you are you. One internship less, one CCA less, it doesn't matter. Just need min requisite to show you are ok, and actually do well for your interview.
