actually noticed quite alot of candidates dressing shirt + tie for first few rounds of interviews and shirt + tie + jacket for interviews with management.
these are not for IB roles which i definitely recommend you come in full suit for every interview.

For interview, if you wear blazer, you wear tie. This is interview, and not smart casual dressing for biz trip or meetings.
Different people/ industries may have different expectations for interview outfits.
So you go in this order depending on your view of how picky the industry could be on interview outfit: shirt > shirt with tie > shirt with tie with blazer. Never go interview with shirt with blazer without tie.
For banking, blazer should be fine. Interviewers are unlikely to view it as overkill.
For other roles (even buyside), wearing blazer anot may be a hit and miss. Some interviewers may view it as overkill (first impression is IB wannabe), some is neutral, while some is insistent on it (no wear = bad impression).

Which banks? If it is direct application to specific teams and not MA programme, shirt and tie should work.
But if you really want to wear blazer, I think that is fine too. Think banking generally views blazer to be a norm.
Rule of thumb: if the jobs/firm requires ppl to wear blazer (client meeting and etc), you wear it for interview. If it doesn't require, you don't wear it to interview
