Anyway just be polite to them is good enough. Don't need to entertain them too much unless there is something you want. Sometimes they are just fishing information if they are not mindlessly pushing resume & opportunities.

Ok, thanks. It's just difficult to find compensation figures online for buyside sectors so I thought that recruiters would be a good way to find out industry averages. I know that Mycareersfuture provides compensation too but most of the time, their range are too huge so it's hard to tell. Any particular source that you have found to be useful in terms of providing compensation figures?

I think recruiters are not helpful on such information at all. I have pushed away a couple of interviews and recruiters that just don't match the need and realise they either dunno or don't want to share the actual range.
The hard truth is that compensation range is large, and employees have the information disadvantage. I think my comps is below average if I do some simple math considering YOE, firm profile, job scope. But I spoke to a couple of peers in other firms and knew of both types who had much higher or lower comp than me.
Guess the only advice I have is continue to train your craft and keep a look out for suitable opportunities (team, role, pay)?

Yeah, that's discouraging to hear. Seems like word of mouth is still the best way to find out your adequate compensation. Thanks kind stranger on the web!
