You could always take a MBA if you want a more traditional exit option but being in S&T generally means you are more of a risk-taker. Generally, heard that the more senior in the industry would try to negotiate with buy-side for a cut of the P/L they generate rather than a good base and variable like IBD.

Would not recommend S&T if you want job stability, having "fun" in the sense of staying in the office till 2-3am and want a "steady" exit option
SIM loser trying to flex his knowledge in high finance

Pays better than sales, less that portfolio management

Cry more while I am already in process for recruitment of FT role 15 months before graduation. Applied for overseas role as I don't intend to come back.

However, a few firms asked me to consider applying their SG role that is still not advertised as they are moving out of HK or setting up new BU in Asia. They mentioned will put me through interview process first.

T.T I am so sad I am p2w

Oh and just before you cry that I am bluffing, those are flexible arrangements that might need me to take an internship the last semester before graduation to start learning the ropes. The few firms I am liaising now still have no clear timeline to relocate or upscale their new BU operations.

I would like to thank Carrie Lam for her covid-19 measures and of course you can always thank the MIW for taking care of Sinkies by getting employers to advertise for 1 month before applying for EP.

Maybe you may get that minuscule chance before the foreigners once the job advertisement opens if I flunk it.

Isn't it the norm to secure the internship (and subsequent offer for conversion) in your penultimate year? Why does your potential offers requires you to start 6month before graduation

In any case, good for you. Never easy to pass interviews. But maybe don't need to try proving your self worth so much on a forum

no idea tbh. Those are not doing sell-side and they are non-public firms (but nonetheless well-known). Think the recruitment process could be different. For the sell-side applications that I made, the norm is indeed what you said and am in the process.

Yea agree with you about not needing to prove self worth. It's not like it will help me in anyway. I guess I was just throwing the **** back to the person that thrown at me under the guise of anonymity (not necessarily a good idea) but I wouldn't have bothered irl if such comment was made to me in person.

I was told the interview is FT. If they have accelerated timeline for their objectives and the resources, then they consider getting me in early to start learning(?)

working in hk is miserable unless your company provides housing allowance

Even high earning expats maybe living in those box like houses while the same pay u can rent a big condo here

Also don’t like the culture there in general … they got the bad things from both the western world and the Asian societies
