Career in Marketing Research
Any market researchers around here?
Wondering what the prospects of a career in marketing research are like - marketing research revolving around consumer products/services to be specific (i.e. areas where Nielsen/Kantar and the likes typically specialize in).
Is a career in relatively more niche areas like ethnographic market research something viable here in Singapore?
Would appreciate if anyone has knowledge on the possible career path, and salary progression for this field. Or if there are strong reasons to avoid a career in this area.
Thanks!

I'm working a market research company as a researcher. Firstly, I have to say market research is really don't have much more demands in Singapore. A lot of local companies are thinking market research is wasting money, only government and overseas companies want it.
Most of local SMEs are still quite traditional. A boss has told me he doing business by send flyers in the mail box, market research cannot help him getting business.
You cannot join a company with low demands market entry. You may you will lose jobs in any time like me. You will worried about one client lost for whole company would suffer cash follow problem. Where is the career path?
At last, you have to go back to school to study the PHD and become a professor of market research.
