Hi Iworktolive, thanks for your reply.
i was working in software development(a software house) for 2 years, and then working with telecom for marketing support for another 1 year. and now i am working with a semiconductor MNC, doing SCM IT support and software development. till today 3 years sharp.
all the way around, i did not ask any salary, all the salary were propsoed by the company: first 2300, 2500, and now 3500. i never asked anything.
btw, my masters and degree both did at nus, soc.
i am also a pmp holder, since 2 years ago.
hope my info provided is clear enough.

Quote from IT Analyst
This is quoted from a reply in 'really that bad for engineers?' thread
"Hi All...
I would just like to simply state starting salaries of IT positions in banks/financial institutions with presence in Singapore. The lowest starting pay is around 3.3k in a local bank, and the highest, as far as I know, is 5.8k per month in a top-tier investment bank.(i.e. 40K - 70K per annum).
Though it's not as high as those in Front Office, such as corporate finance/sales/trading roles (starting pay offer of at least 6k to as high as 10k SGD per month for a fresh grad), I'm satisfied with what I'm getting for now. The key word is 'for now'.
I myself am an engineering graduate, specifically computer engineering, but many fellow fresh grads who are in technology graduate/analyst/associate (whatever it's called in each bank) are from varying academic backgrounds, such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, mathematics, physics and business/finance.
One thing is similar in all these banks & their hiring strategies: they DO hire nerds, who can get the job done. they PREFER smart people who get decent grades and at the same time participate in activities/committees/volunteer services.
Just my 2 cents."
So... fresh grads with bachelor degree are earning up to 70k per annum in IT field.
With your experience and as a Master holder, one would expect you to get more...
Underpaid or not, you decide. Your pay, your life
Merry Christmas in advance!!

You are not paid by your GPA or your certs.
you paid by what tasks you are doing for the company. Some companies do pay more for certs, mine does not. But we pay people according to ther job description, and we have people whose job it is to catagorize a job description by pay band.
I can't tell you whether 52K is good for your market or not. Because you can do a research on that. your field, current employment rate all factor into your pay.
The relevant question is, are you being paid a fair wage for the job you do?
A 4 % raise by the way would be only given to well above average performers in my company.
You very well may be unappreciated and underpaid at your current job. You can try to get that at your current employer, but you may have better success jumping ship to a company that pays better.
But you may also find that the grass isn't always greener. Some places that pay well have higher turnover and more stress.
Ask yourself if you like your job, your boss, and your work environment, because many people do not.

well, i totally agree what you have said, company doesn't pay for certs. but i would say that doing company job while pursuing other official certs at least means that a person can management time and work well. go it further can say the person doesn't just stop by what he has but keep upgrading. that definitely a good sign.
now the question for me is that, i am not paid as what i am doing. my job scope has been changed twice, but company give a good reason is that market still not good, so i keep for the title for loooog time but without a single $ increased.
p.s.,
for the company can pay you more or not, i think it is always a philosophic dilemma: if you are not able to get a seat outside, you are enslaved( but not a talent); when you are able to get a seat outsider, there is no any meaning for company to comment you anymore. so i don't think can raise anything to current employer, except you really someone in the team, the department, the company - to me, that is really impossible, especially in Singapore IT field, Singapore just a support mill but not a R&D center(my view in industrial like my current one.)

thanks man, for so valuable info sharing.
i may need to adjust my strategy in career development.
at the very beginning i thought the start pay meaningless as long as i am able to acquire knowledge. so the first few jobs i really don't mind what they pay me.
but now the situation changed. i have been working for this company for some years, and in past two years, i workload has been increased a lot(together with title promoted), so i think it may be right time to ask for higher salary.
i approached to my direct boss, he showed me a negative sign - means low pay will always being low pay~~
so now i am thinking to get a new job. i received some calls from agents, but when reach to salary portion, they always ask me about my current pay and then give me merely 10 - 20 percent increase. so i really lost where to benchmark my claim, or what price is more rational to propose.
i have gone through some mom's reports(between 2008 -2009/2010), it shows even higher figure i am quite frustrated, i thought i can get a fair pay as i'm bring more to the company - the turnout so much sad! company just close the eyes.:mad

ur boss condemn u doesn't mean forever u will be condemned unless u think the way u change ur thinking about it. he has no motivation to increase ur pay or retain u.
agents charge as low as possible.
imho look directly for employers and tell them how u can offer ur services to them, you need to show and tell them about it.
