Signed contract, but pending reference check

Does it mean I am just waiting for the final email from HR to inform me my reporting date?

I signed up for a program which includes rotation, the next intake is still a couple of months away. I signed the contract a month ago though, just pending for the relevant reference check on the items stated on my resume.

Just wanna know before I tender.

Is it okay for me to enquire with my the HR?
