Janechia is on a distinguished road
Default career with Dept of Statistics

Hi,
I did my masters in stats in 2001. Since then I have been working on stats with various companies, lastest is SAS. My position is becoming redundant and so I sent a mail to Dept of Stats and they have invited me for discussions. I don't know what they have in mind but am going nevertheless. My queries are:

a. What is the likely position they may be considering me for?
b. How long they will take to say yes or no?
c. What is the salary they will likely offer? I drew 150k in my current job, but soon this job will be over. I don't want to take a cut but am not sure if Dept of Stats has such budgets. What is the situation?

So you have 11 years exp. Depends on luck, but most likely they will offer you either Snr Manager or Asst Director. In terms of pay definitely will be cut, if Snr Manager should be 5-6k+ and Asst Director 6-7k+ mthly.

TBH since you are being retrenched, your position is very weak. I doubt both public or pte sector will pay >100k basic for a statistician.

Have you told 'em that you are about to become redundant? A good negotiator never shows all her cards and this will only weaken your bargaining position. Good luck.

Are there a lot of statistical rigor in singstat? Statistics can mean different thing. Straight forward frequency counts or number reporting is one type of statistics...

Regression and stochastics and other profound numerical manipulation is also statistics.

Nobody will employ a statistician to do frequency counts. Regression and stochastics are like Stats101, so if it's just simple stuff like this probably max is 6-7k salary

Regression and stochastics are not profound numerical manipulation. These are just simple tools with a few mouse clicks on SPSS that many jr level analyst use... Anyway looking at the kind of report from singstat, I doubt they utlize advanced statistics.
