Starting business as civil service

Hi,

I am currently a final year student and was thinking between going to civil service or the private sector.

Is it possible for me to do a side business if I were to join the civil service?

Yesh. If your boss ask directly.
Gotta be honest here. If you are doing side business.
Making false statement to your superior civil servant is an criminal offence. Can be jailed.

One of my senior have actually started business, but not really sure if she declared to HR before.

If there are no conflict of interest, it should be allowed right?
