Impt questions are:
what is ur current salary?
what would be ur new salary if u got promoted in ur current role?
That being said, 7k p.m. for just 2 years of exp is very exceptional.

I don't think promotion can get you 20% increment. Anyway either your math is poor or you are considering other factors, it is obvious 7k concrete offer better than 6k estimated promotion offer. Secondly, you get to learn new skills.

Fair in terms of?
If you want exposure to different markets, clientele, products, etc -> definitely HSBC and SC are better

I'm an engineer working for about 5 years. If I want to move to banking, what qualities and skills are banks looking out for?

Depends on what role you are looking to break into? Banking is nothing special from other industries. If ur looking into sales role -> the skills and qualities needed for a salesperson applies. Same for data analytics, project mgmt role, ops role, etc.
