Why is OCBC often touted as the least ideal local bank to join?

you must be kidding. everyone knows DBS > UOB > OCBC in terms of local bank prestige

Appreciate the advices! Since I want to have a career in finance, would it be good to ask for a transfer into advisory (but I know it is more competitive to get in than audit). Also, I have tried to apply for banking graduate programmes but no luck. Does it make a difference if I leave big 4 into a BB MO/FO job after 1.5/2 years in terms of career progression & salary-wise?

Could you explain the order of prestige? Seen many posts around on this but none explains why.

I'm the guy who replied to you. It would definitely be great if you can enter something like transaction advisory. For career progression, I can't say much because that depends on the individual. But salary-wise, the advantage is that as an experienced hire, you have more room to negotiate your salary as compared to someone who was a fresh hire in the bank.

I didn't post the rankings, but I agree. I started my career in SCB, then HSBC, OCBC and finally now DBS. It's been 12 years. DBS behaves a lot more like an international bank. There are SOPs, proper systems, decent technology, and good pay/welfare. Office is amazing. Cultural is diverse, got expats, got locals. I quit OCBC after 9 months to join DBS. OCBC culture is bad, mostly local Chinese (I am chinese too) who shake leg everyday, manual processes, pay isn't great, senior management isn't inspiring. TLDR, I didn't see OCBC moving in the direction that I had hoped. No comments on UOB though, but I reckon it is more similar to OCBC than DBS.

I’ve seen some bad comments about jap banks.. their increment and promotion r very slow... but if eventually, one wanna move over to local or foreign banks, still possible? Seems like prestige is important
