how to make it big in engineering?

seriously.... i have seen more than enough threads that look down on engineering. but i do know that some manage to carve out a successful career in engineering.

probably those with long experience in the engineering sector can share ur stories?

is building up experience/network and becoming a consultant a way to go for engineers? set up ur own biz? move on to project management? or becoming an experienced highly specialized engineer in a particular field helps? or go overseas?

1. Choose the more highly paid industry
2. Go into mgmt OR be a consultant and specialise in a niche field OR etc etc

join an EPC contractor in a sales role. work on regional projects. will be more rewarding than a technical career

You may consider an engineering position in one of the big mining companies located in Western Australia where a full-time engineer earns in excess of AUD$250,000 per annum.I thought that is really a reasonable income for most people.Imagine if both husband and wife work in the same sector, the couple would be earning AUD$500,000 per annum.Once converted to singapore dollars,it is a substantial sum of money per year.

also, if you're a mining engineer, I would recommend just migrating to Australia under the professional migration scheme. you get a much more relaxed life in a beautiful place.

Easiest way is to set up your own company. Civ eng grad can start your own contracting firm and can be your own PE. I know many contracters driving S class but there are also many that go bankcrupt especially during the recession.
