SG Stat Board Contract like Permanent job

Hi, I recently went for 2 rounds of interviews to a SG Stat Board. The 2nd (final) round was a with a 5 person panel with the highest ranked person in Stat Board. After the interview, I got a call, saying that its a 3 years contract job with all facilities of a permanent employee. I was also told its very rare that a contract will not be extended. I was told even a newly applied high ranked Group Director has to go through such a contract period.

Can someone guide me whether I should take this offer? Please guide.

I joined a stat board 2 years ago and was given a perm contract with 6 months probation. So it's not true everyone starts on a contract.
