Help in Career in Logistics and Supply Chain

Hi guys!

I am a fresh graduate (Diploma in International Logistics and Supply Chain Management) who completed NS recently. Currently, I have no intentions of going to uni due to financial status and academic results. However, the Earn and Learn programme from SkillsFuture has attracted me due to their benefits.

I contacted them and they returned to me with a list of companies, which I am to select 15 of them and they will send my resume to them. However, I am currently spoilt for choice as I am not familiar with them. Can I have suggestions (both positive and negative) for which companies to choose? If you studies about logistics and supply chain, the best bet is to go for forwarder if salary is not an issues to you.

Oil & gas/phem can earn more.
Do consider to study about project management or take up PMP, can earn more.

If you are keen on learning how logistic works in real life you can try some of the well known company that make use of their logistics to save/make money, eg IKEA, DELL.

But is still good to start with forwarder and then specialized on certain area, eg Airfreight, Oceanfreight, operation, project and etc. Then move to shipper or company to help them with their logistics needs.

on your list you can consider,

Bollore
DHL
Kuehne + Nagel (KN)
Schenker
Yusen
ST
Rohde & Schwarz Asia Pte Ltd
CEVA

Dont expect marvellous pay. I have been to few world top forwarders, I can tell you that.

3PL Management trainee program

Hi. I am pursuing a career in logistics. Anyone knows how is the MT program in 3PL like? I was told after the program, will be promoted to either supervisor or Am position. Is it true that if you stay in ops side for too long(e.g 3-4 years), it will be hard for u to switch to office enviroment? Any brother/sister can offer their advice? Thanks.

Joining for ELP

I'll be joining for the ELP too and will need to reply the ranking by 6Aug. Currently, I'm looking into
NTUC/grocery logistics
Schenker
YCH
SDV
Kuehne and Nagel
DHL
ST
CEVA
From this thread, I'm gonna consider these 2 as well.
Yusen
Rohde & Schwarz Asia Pte Ltd
Anyone more familiar with the industry can help me have better insight on the department's culture? And also, which one did you get into in the end?

You can include Toll and CEVA. They are reputable.

NTUC Fairprice should not be top choice as they are not strictly a supply chain and logistics company.

Do check the location of these companies as most of these are either in the west say Tuas Jurong or East such as Changi, Loyang etc.

Federated Cargo Line Pte Ltd

I'm from Federated Cargo Line Pte Ltd. It is not a good company to join as the workload are exceeding the benefits given. Please re-consider your choice when apply for the job.

TOLL is a pretty good company to join now as they are going through a big transformation with money being pumped in by japan post

Would anyone care to share what would a role in business operations entail?

go for the more reputable companies like DHL, Keppel and ST Logistics. you will be exposed to how international companies are run, and it will definitely help you in your career. but you can also consider skillsfuture courses as well, since you mentioned skillsfuture. there are courses from poly, BCG RISE, etc, that you join to help you to gain even more skills. with the new skills, you will have more bargaining power in your salary, and also it sets you apart from other applicants :)
