You can join eagles as a workshop engineer str after your degree, I think the starting pay same as trainee laes. No point spending 4 to 6 years getting your lae license then throw it away to collect another set of exams and papers to get your engine signatory approval.

Default Engineering Service department

Hello I am in polytechnic in my final semester. I am interning at S* in the Engineering Service Department. For me my supervisors say the job nice and pay decent. Anyone here can also share their experiences working in this type of job in aviation?

You should read this thread from page 1. I used to be like you 10 years ago, Id learnt and heard many stories and stuff about the job; inclusive of all the posts in this thread. Id think that 'it cant be that bad' and here I am 10 years later into the job, I can tell you, it is that bad.

You need an extreme on-the-job and aviation passion coupled with some other important attributes and mentality for you to thrive. The pay will be good once you get your licence with some a/c type ratings.

One more thing, being in this field as an intern or even a trainee/apprentice is so much different to when you are performing and signing off the job without much supervision (due to manpower crunch). When I was an intern, I can only hear so much from my supervisors and hearsay, and some of the advice are no longer valid; because times have changed. More work, lesser benefits and/or pay. Lesser sleeping and lepak time too (opss). Even if you do get to work, we merely just observed, maybe hold and bring some tools here and there, touch here and there, hardworking ones probably do the kachang puteh stuff and think ok gg easy job.

Like what others have mentioned before, if you are here for the money, I rather you go for the engine (workshop) engineer route (more pay, more benefits, faster climb) or even some other white-collar engineer route (ES/Tech service/quality), or be some insurance/property agent (your 2/3k per month they earn by sitting down at Starbucks for 30mins). If you are here for the 'glory' and 'coolness' of an LAE but don't want to do the dirty job, I also recommend you to look away, you will cry father and mother every day like all the seniors ahead of us in this thread.

Default What is happening

Asking many people currently working as LAE. They say the money is good but the work life balance not there. When I read this forum, people say the money is not good. I dont know if can trust the people on this forum honestly. People on this forum only complain one.

The basic maybe less but the allowance super high. For eagle services asia for example ot variable and allowance are stackable. If you happen to come from a degree route with a caas paper, basic will be 3k with allowance will be high. Unlike siaec, with degree basic will be 2.5k. Bonus is confirm in esa. 4 month plus. Siaec bonus is still 0.5 plus low increment at 1.5%. Until siaec improve its payscale and allowance, being a workshop engineer is more relevant.
