LAE is hard work. Being trainee is hard studying. Fail caas exam twice.. Likely kick out of scheme.
Training period is hard work too.. Since u are suppose to learn how to fix aircraft. Get licence is stressful job. Cos u are signing off CRS for aircraft to fly (Line maint).. Then of cos the $ is there.. There are LAE who start the career n retired as LAE also. Gross salary wouldn't disclose here. But it is definitely decent.

Trainee unproductive. Don't expect much. Definitely lower than market rate. After u can sign aircraft. Its a different story. Can a normal. Mechanical engineer earn more than LAE? Doubt so...

Could a LAE earn more than a mechanical engineer within the normal working hours? excluding the fact that they are truly an engineer after the 44 weeks of 2.5k.

Trainee allowance little, get licensed already also not much... have to put in the hours... after end bond, annual should hit or exceed 80k with decent OT... with about 15 years exp minimum 120k per annual. For a standard diploma LAE.

Dont bother joining. You spend 4 years for SIA as a trainee and then you will get a pay of 3.3k after 4 years. For the first 4 years, your pay will be 2.5k.

As for ST aero,it will be 6-8 years if I'm not mistaken. But theres alot of OT for ST LAE engineers. The set back is the long training years and you might not passout as a LAE engineer if you fail the interview with the QA. The waiting time for the next interview might be long and thus affecting your pay.

My suggestion if you are a diploma grad,go to a private sector company / mnc aerospace company. You might get sponsorship till masters. On top of that, you can progress quite fast even if you started of as a technician.

Default Salary

Currently a degree holder, passed out as LAE. Fellow degree peers getting married have 3 times my CPF. Salary is low at the beginning (meaning 3yr8mth training + at least 5 years LAE) and only catch up (wont exceed like the old generation old schemes diploma holders) to peers later. Meaning u will be 30+ years old and still living prudently and trying to save money, have girlfriend, get married. Endure this lifestyle for at least ten years. Imagine every $1k extra earn is 1K extra savings, but now, salary barely meeting spenditure with low savings, plus BTO payment coming soon. If you earn more like my peers, perhaps u spend more too. Good or bad, see whats ur lifestyle (singlehood?). Excellent job to keep for diploma holders, bad job for degree holders (plus the extra 4 years of studying a degree).

Maybe u think prospects are good because of a degree. But chances are u will rather stay as LAE then be promoted. After the ten years, u will have a decent basic income, plus OT based on ur basic salary. Promotion (definitely need experience, dont listen to ppl telling u degree is enough to promote) means no more OT, on call 24/7, meetings everyday to maintain aircraft, responsible for the team of LAEs below you who will be telling u they cant do this and that, and the bosses will hound on you to complete this and some additional tasks wihout giving more ground time, and end up with delays that u have to answer for because 500 people just got offloaded and given a free hotel stay.

If it was solely dealing with aircraft, it is a great job. But unfortunately, dealing with alot more people than you know it. The art of taichi may help today, but what goes around, comes around. But if u are at the opposite end of a taichi master. Plus little experience. Endure. Work. Pray u did everything correctly under pressure.
