You can't bunch all LAEs into one bundle, some are degree holders, some are diploma holders, and all of them command different pay scales. In fact, senior LAEs vs new LAEs are different too in their pay packages, free air tickets and huge bonuses/stock bonuses. So which group of LAEs are you speaking to? The LAEs over in the US, EU and Middle-East are doing 70 to 100 sgd per hour, how much do you think our LAEs are earning? And are you comparing an LAE with years of experience w/ multiple type courses vs a greenhorn engineer?

Good point. I am speaking to LAEs that are waiting to finish their bonds, which means they are not as experienced.

Good pay

For a diploma holder LAE, the pay is excellent, it is tough to find this high pay in the mechanical engineering industry with a diploma. For degree holders LAE, if compared to their peers in other sectors or even the white-collar aerospace route, you can expect wavering viewpoints on whether it is worth trading your family time to match up with their expected salary.

Siaec bonus is still 0.5 plus low increment at 1.5%. Until siaec improve its payscale and allowance, being a workshop engineer is more relevant.

Trainee Technician Program at SI***

Hi, I got an offer to join the trainee tech program at SI*** next year: 1-year training (1.9k), 3 years bond (2110). I'm currently in a dilemma about whether to join this program. Btw I'm a degree holder in aerospace eng. Reading from this thread about the program is not worth it. Is it that bad though? Roster-wise, salary-wise, culture-wise, career development and such.

Why trainee tech? With degree u can go for trainee LAE program.

Then again, if you like hands-on job and don't mind the pay and comparison with your peers or even opposite sex, then go for it.

U need passion and love for the industry

Coz Pay really not attractive for degree holder

But if you love it , it is worth it.

I'll be finishing my Aerospace Engineering Diploma in a few weeks. I applied for SIT but since my GPA's hovering around 3.2 I'm not sure if I can get in. I'm getting a little stressed out looking for jobs a fresh Diploma grad can do. I looked at several technician trainee programmes but the low pay is discouraging. Any advice please?

Similar to any fresh pilot bonded to their company, trainees always have lower pay, if you can't bite the bullet then I guess this industry is not for you. An experienced tech with a diploma can command up to 6k to 12k salary outside of Singapore, so think 5 to 10 years down the road and not what is in front of you. The work we do is "craftmanship" based and therefore degree is not really anything unless you dream of being in an office and having 3 hours of lunch break daily.

Another route for you is to join STAero as a trainee LAE with a minimum entry of diploma, if you wanna boost your chance u can find any intern starting jobs like aircraft planner, trainee technician, store assistant, SATS, DNATA or basically anything aircraft related to boost your chance in the interview.
