those who were rejected got their reply last week friday..and im one of them.

Looks like the end of the road in aircraft maintenance for me..aviation in singapore is too small.

Hi everybody and I'm from Malaysia. I graduated from a uni in mechanical eng. recently and wish to study in aircraft maintenance.
Does anyone currently in SIAEC aircraft maintenance engineer trainee program?
I am interested in this program but the information provided on official website is so little so hopefully can get answer from senior here

1) How many allowance will be given during training?
2) Does hostel provided or we have to find own accomoadation?
3) After one succesfully finishes the program, the license cretified is issued by CAAS?
4) How long is the bond including the 44 month training and work?


I am new to here and sorry for my bad english. Hopefully can get some answer from you guys. Much appreciated for the help.

From what i have gathered from credible sources, ull get $2500 throughout the 44 months without any bonuses. Ur bonded for 4 years after u finish the course.
Ur training for the CAAS papers therefore ull get only CAAS license.

From what i know, no company in singapore provides accomodation unless ur a high level executive or a labour worker working in construction.
Not every country in the world is like UAE who provides place to stay, u also wont get any extra allowances for renting a place.

U can try apply for SIAEC but its quite tough to get in, SIA is a prestigious brand name so they want someone who have good recognized degree and someone who they think would best represent them as LAE.

If ur looking for aircraft maintenance, in singapore only have 3 places where u can start with zero experience and thats SIAEC, ST Aerospace and Jet Aviation. Other than them only take experienced workers.
If u cant get in to any of those 3 pretty much end of the road for aircraft maintenance.

Default STAero TLAE Salary

Any LAE or trainee that is currently in the programme willing to share the allowance given during training? And after the 2 year training phase, would there be OT during the on the job training? And how many days of leaves do a TLAE get and do we have the option to when to clear our leave or are the dates assigned for us?

1) Allowance(Diploma): 1st year=1.7k
2nd year= 1.8k
3rd year=1.9k
4th year= 2.something. forgotten.
subsequent year after that is around 2.6k and then follow the normal increment ladder.
1st type rating is 500, 2nd is 600, then 300 if im not wrong for the 3rd one.

2) training phase is 3 years, 4th year is assistant engineer. 5th year onwards is LAE.
training consist of SAR-66 CAAS modules, roughly about 15-16 papers to take, followed by practical training.

therefore no OT for first 3 years, 4th year however, i cannot ascertain.

3) if im not wrong the AL is about 15 days, will increase with the number of working years. during training phase u and your 'classmates' will decide when to clear the leave. thereafter you can use ur leave base on roster or how many LAEs have taken during that day, once max reach no other can take leave. or if u are assigned to an aircraft, quite hard to take leave.

all of the above infos are based on the first interview, they will tell u everything u wanna know, and some other infos are from my friend who are currently working as an LAE there.

LAE, like pilots, are only for those who are willing to go for no matter what the difficulties or shortcomings are during the training phase. in the long run, its the license is all u need.
for whoever are not willing to go through these phase, please just be a technician or tech services engineers.

Default Queries and Clarifications

Hi everyone here, I am writing this long post here because I would like to seek the opinions of the people here. (TLAE, LAE, anyone that knows something that might be helpful to me in making my decision)

I am currently in my final year of study in a local polytechnic. I will be graduating next year with a Diploma in Aerospace Engineering with a cGPA of about 3.46.

The reason I am writing this post here is that I am kinda in a dilemma of what I should be doing in future (study more, which I don't really mind. or just start work, which I don't mind too because there's money).

From what I have learnt from my friends and also reading this thread, there are 2 companies (please correct me if i am wrong) which are offering programmes to train people to become an LAE (which is to attain a CAAS license).

For SASCO, they have a 8 year programme which trains you to be an LAE in 4 years and then another 4 year bond. Pay wise if i'm not wrong its as described in the post dated 19-10-2017 for a diploma holder. I would like to know if the starting pay is the same for a degree holder? and also what will/might be the pay increment after I am officially an LAE or even after I have finished my bond. like the basic pay, OT pay etc. :x

For the other company which is SIAEC, I heard that they are only accepting degree holders. However, their programme is 5 years. But I don't really know much about their pay.

Let's say I complete my bond with either of the companies if I apply for a job as a line maintenance engineer(the one who checks and signs off planes before they depart), may I know the earning scheme of these people? and also what kind of other jobs can I get if I am an LAE.

If I were to pursue a uni degree, I would most probably be going for Aerospace Engineering at NTU or Aircraft Systems Engineering at SIT.

In addition to the things I mentioned above, I heard that the Oil and Gas industry is also a very lucrative one. It is possible to apply for a position there with either one of the uni degrees?

I would really appreciate if someone can read this post and advice me on what i should do. ( and also clarify my doubts if you can :P ).

hi there young one. i will try to guide u to the safest path as much as i can, and not to repeat my mistake and get stuck in this.

my background, i have an aerospace electronics diploma (which i feel like tearing it up) and currently working in a big stable aviation MRO. i tell you, the starting pay for an aviation technician across most (if not all) aviation companies is around 1700 to 2000 minimum. the highest gross i know is 2.3k with all the allowances, thats in SIAEC. increment yearly would probably be around 70 to 150 except for ST Aerospace.
bonus wise ranging from 1.x to max 4 months, also have AWS aka 13th month bonus.
in order for you to become an engineer in any of these companies u need a degree in engineering.
otherwise, count your number of years as technician before u can transfer department and become an engineer.
otherwise, you can become a technician forever and work base on shift and OT to increase your monthly gross, prospect is to become a lead technician and then team leader, nothing wrong with this if ur comfortable with it.

my advise is, go get a degree with your gpa now to be an engineer if that is what u want.

for ST Aerospace Services Co Pte Ltd, a degree holder will start 2.3k if i remember correctly. when you're training for LAE in that 4 years there's always a chance you may be demoted to technician should you fail their requirements. so u cant let your guard down till u get that precious license. once ur demoted, uve to serve your bond till finish.

SIAEC is the same period, 4 years. then 4 years bond. someone told me, or ive read somewhere, that the pay is 2.5k for the duration of your training and no bonuses will be given, u need to ask around to confirm this.

after u get ur license and have at least 8 to 10 years of experience, u can move up the ranks to be white collar in the office or white collar on ground, meaning executive.

increment wise, i can say in general, it ranges from 0 to 250, depending on the company and seniority. lowest i heard came from ST Aero, again, u need to ask around, i cant confirm.

lastly, if ur taking degree, i beg you, please do not take aerospace degree. please take something general like mechanical or electrical engineering. the market for those degrees is bigger than aviation degree, and they are still widely accepted by aviation companies.

so even though u hate or have no interest in mechanical or electrical, lets face it, its just 4 years of studying versus 20-30 years of working. i have a hard time using my diploma to find jobs in other industries like oil n gas.
take something general to be safe, u can study about how aircrafts fly via or online.

if u want evidence....go to jobstreet website and search under aviation and compare with other engineering industries. u can count the number of job openings under aviation versus everything else and how many wants mechanical/electrical engineering.

thats all from my sincere advice. if u still choose to take aerospace degree, go ahead, be confident and dont regret it in the future.
