Dilemma over UNI. Please help!

Hi all, I just graduated from Ngee Ann Poly with a Diploma in Accountancy. I was rejected local Unis but was accepted into SIM UOL Bachelor of Science, Accounting and Finance with Honours. However, I am also considering study abroad in Australia at the Uni of Western Australia(UWA).

The reasons as to why I am considering UWA is because I want to gain a whole new experience, to become more independent and grow as an individual. I find that I am being too dependent on my friends and family in Singapore and would also like to try a new education system.
However, I find that UOL is also not a bad choice after hearing many good reviews of the school. Furthermore, I could graduate with Honours in just 2 years in UOL.

I have consulted numerous opinions on this. My friends felt that I should stay in Singapore because Im unfamiliar with the culture overseas and have no one there but the working adults that I have consulted with told me it would be a great experience and nowadays, employers look for people who studied abroad as they are more independent etc.

So where do you all think would be the best choice for me and why?

Thank you very much! I really appreciate your help.

Go overseas if your parents can afford it. Have you seeked their advice yet?

Thanks for your reply!

My parents have allowed me to go. They also voiced the same concerns as my friends but think that overseas is also a good experience for me.

What would be the reason for you to vote for Overseas?

I would advise you to go overseas as well. However, try and choose a better university. Australia's university admissions are quite liberal. It shouldnt be hard to gain admission, even if your grades are not too good. ANU, Umelb or Usyd should be your top choices. UWA is pretty shitty IMO. Even Monash would be a better choice.

Why do you think it would be better for me to go overseas?

I did think of Uni of Mel but I felt that its going to be a lot of distractions. I am also thinking of UQ or QUT, QUT seems to be one of the two unis that have all 3 business accreditation.
Would looking into what business accreditation a school has be one of the uni picking factors for you?:)

just think what you want to do after graduation. Do you want the possibility of working there after graduation? If yes, then go ahead. If you think of coming back to sg, don't waste the time and money, remain in sg as sg recoginizes either local uni cert or overseas cert.

I agree, go overseas if u want to work there after or for the experience (new culture, new country, living on ur own etc etc), cos I have an oz degree and it was difficult for me to get a job in singapore, seems like they prefer local grads.. I still got a job though, it just took longer to find one..

by the way, dont think there will be much culture shock, or much difference.. cos there's many many asians in oz.. esp in business. lots of singaporeans too. the only thing is living on ur own n being independant.
