Amongst your overseas choices, of cos LSE and UCL better. If not, the next choice will be Manchester. but UK is very academic-based, you should go for something that gives you balance of theory and practice (my own opinion). US is a good choice, have you considered US? why UK is popular among sporeans is cos its 3-year direct honours and cheaper.
What have been 'popular', 'recognised', 'preferred' etc is based on what people have done in the past and it gets passed down. But things are changing slowly this generation, some things will remain, but I foresee alot of things will change in 10 to 20 years.

Yea I did think about US. Unfortunately I will be returning to a stay-in combat vocation from November onwards all the way till MAR 2015, so I doubt I will have the time and energy to revise and take SATs.
Other than that, would an accounting degree be more impressive than a vanilla BBA ? OR would a BBA with a quantitative second major be more advantageous and impressive than the two?

Dont waste time. Just stick to NUS. Why? Because the universities you listed, except for UCL and LSE, are not well known here in Singapore. People might assume that you went overseas because you didnt do well for A-levels and you had your rich daddy pay for you to go there instead. Although Manchester and Bristol are quite high up the ranking tables, it is honestly not difficult to get in there. I have friends who couldnt get into local uni but managed to secure a place in those universities. Just need the money. And its pretty well known that those who go overseas are those who couldnt make it here.
Just stick to NUS. As a general rule of thumb, if its not in top 10, its not worth spending your money going there to get a degree. NUS is good enough, especially if you decide to come back to work anyway.

in terms of reputation in singapore, I'll say LSE and UCL.
actually, I think you have a good shot at UCL. don't write it off so quickly.
I'll say don't bother with local universities since you can afford overseas.
imo, warwick/manchester/bath are better choices than NUS. don't even bother with NTU. crappy place especially for undergrad.

So If the focus is on the name brand, should I just get a chemistry/ Mech eng degree from Imperial? (that's assuming I manage to enter of course haha )
Would a science degree from a big brand name uni get me finance positions?

True tht one can enter with BBC...not sure why SMU has such low reqs. Maybe it will increase in the future. However at the rate at which local institutions are churning out BBAs, I am starting to worry about the prospects one :/

Biz graduates are needed in almost all sectors of economies, it has always been like this....not really an area for worry.
SMU sch fees are super expensive, thats why it was not in my consideration last time, went with NTU cos it takes only 3 years to get Honours. Heard that few years ago, some employers complain that some SMU graduates were not up to standard. We discuss about it and realised its not that their graduates are bad, its cos SMU over-market their students then, ended up employers have very high expectations of them. SMU was aware and thats why their marketing has toned down alot.

Lol. All this talk about which local uni biz school is better is useless la. All 3 of them will have same prospects. All their graduates are almost the same. Except ntu has one year less but after gaining an additional year of experience for them, all the biz grads would probably earn the same. No point saying who is better who is not. The gap is honestly too small to tell. It boils down to the person at this point. If you cant decide which local uni to go to, my advice is to just take the one closest to your house lol. But if you want to go overseas, NUS of course has better branding. NTU and SMU not as much.
