was from jc myself and i think other than helping you to enter a uni, you really learn useless stuffs in jc. at least poly gives them a useful and skilful cert. come on lah, be more open minded and see the world more, its not all about academics.

The things that you're saying are what many poly students always tell themselves. If that cert is really that good, poly students wouldn't be taking such a low starting pay once they enter the work force. Have you thought about this? How "good" poly students really are is an open secret in Singapore.

Also, the content taught in polys is so shallow. Even the dummies guide will cover any subject area in greater depth past chapter 3-4 than what is taught in the polys. At the same time, I understand that most of those enrolled in polys are simply slow at learning & thus the polys are in way forced to limit the content taught and also the pace at which content is taught.

I don't understand why you simply refuse to accept that there are people who are better than you.

Such a myopic view, obviously haven't seen the outside world much yet. And wasted your time studying.

I have to disagree with this. Useless is subjective. JC was an important foundation for my math and physics. Which really helped me in engineering in uni and hence, contributed to my work now as an engineer. Sure, if you make a jump disciplines, it may be useless to you. But if you were from a science stream and stayed in science and engin, I doubt you'd be able to make it through your first day in uni without your JC background. Same goes for humanities students as well.

But not to discount the poly students, what they've learnt can be easily applied to the working world, unlike JC students. The flaw in this argument is of course, comparing JC and poly is like comparing apples to oranges. The JC curriculum is more suited towards moving on to higher education ie university. The poly curriculum is more geared towards work and not much to do with academia. Not that poly students are not smart, just that they weren't taught enough theories unlike JC students. And of course, their math is terrible, nowhere near H2 maths. But then again, your math doesnt have to be that great for the diploma level job that poly readies you for.

So guys, don't compare poly vs JC. Cos theyre not the same. There are pros and con's in both systems.

No one is against poly students. At the end of the day, we still need labourers & people to do all the clerical work.

i got both A1 for my E & A.Maths in O level....and Distinction for Computer Mathematics during my poly years.

I wouldn't call myself a mathematicians (not way in hell) but I've read many of the Mathematics curriculum from JC and there are not that much advanced.

I used to work with a bunch of MBAs in Actuaries and I've seen their work......It's definitely not rocket science....but hey, that's just me.....

wat is MBA in actuaries? wat actuary will go n do MBA which is totally useless for them?

n yea.. u r far from being a mathematician... any math below uni level is jus pressing calculator.

HAHAHAA. Of course they are not advanced, if you can press calculator to get answer then its not math at all. In uni level, we all have graphic calculators beside us but they are literally useless. Calculators can't tell you what zero divide by zero is. They can't tell you what infinity divide by infinity is either. engineers in year 1 only we already learn how to perform such mathematical problems. You can just imagine what real math undergrads learn in year 3 and 4.
