Default Advice needed on NUS e-commerce course!

FireShot Screen Capture #426 - 'NUS Department of Information Systems' - www_comp_nus_edu_sg_is_.jpg
This is a course offered under NUS School of Computing. Please see link for info: NUS Department of Information Systems

I chose this course as I'm interested in a business IT career in the future. However, I can't seem to find any details on the value of such degree as it is a relatively new course. Would be great if any seniors in e-commerce can share more info on employment prospects here.

I heard that computing degrees are under-valued in Singapore due to foreign talents. Would it be better if I take a business course and specialize in IT instead? Is it true that a business degree offer more job security and better pay than a computing one?

I'm in this field right now. No, not that many foreign talents and honestly, demand for people in this field is rather high. I didn't get very good grades but I'm doing better than most of my peers and its relatively easy finding for a job.

Personally I don't think it really matters whether you choose business or IS. Just choose whatever you are confident in scoring well in. Very impt to get a good internship. Think about getting extra qualifications like google analytics indiv qualification.

It isn't an entirely new course. I am a graduate of NUS B. Comp in EC many years back.

I am not sure how much the curriculum has changed but I guess it should still give you a very good mix of business as well as technology knowledge.

This is invaluable because a very common situation in corporations is that techies can't speak business and biz folks can't speak techno; you'll be the outstanding one who can.

Employment opportunities abound.

Tks for the information. So it seems like I don't have to worry much about employment prospects with a ecommerce degree. Can anyone just give an idea of what type of jobs u are doing now as an ecommerce graduate? As mentioned earlier, "employment opportunities are abound", I would like to find out some examples of the kind of jobs I can look forward to.

Business IT has good career prospects, and a computing degree definitely helps. I have been in IT for 13 yrs since graduating (but in EEE, which is unrelated to my job).

Best is to work for technology companies in sales or consulting. Typical salary for upper management is around $200K and senior management $300-500K, but at these levels its all about delivering on revenue and income, doesnt matter if you are FT or not, and in fact locals generally perform better.

As with anything, do it only if you have the interest.

On the topic of prospects though, you don't have to worry.
Business IT will never be out of demand.
Hate to point out the obvious, but there is simply no way a business can operate efficiently or even simply operate without business and IT people.

Agreed. In fact, IT sales and marketing professionals are one of the highest paid in the market.

Found these figures off a school website that offers diplomas in just that:
